V shaped toenails the length of the nail a sign of nutritional deficiency?

My dd was born with normal looking toenails. About a year after her vomiting started (also digestion and absorption issues) all her toenails developed a v shaped crevice down the length of the nail. The pinkies are the worst and it lessens in severity the closer you get to the big toe.

I've had so many people comment that they have never seen anything like it. The nails on her fingers are fine. I've always thought it was due to multiple nutritional deficiencies. As she has healed, the cervices have lessened. It has been a slow process. Funny thing is that she is five and her teeth have no carries. They have even been spacing out for the last two years.

Anyone ever seen this? I just want to satisfy my curiosity.

Toe nails do funny things I reckon. When I was 18 months old I had burning oil poured down my legs and feet (thank God I have no memory of it!). Luckily, only the left foot scarred.

Anyway, right up until my teenage years the toe nails on the scarred foot grew all wavy: like undulating ridges and waves going across them. And then they suddenly stopped growing in waves and have been normal since about the age of 16.

So, I really can't say if it's a nutritional thing or not, but just wanted to share that toe nails are funny things. Maybe they reflect trauma?

i can't say that i have seen or heard of anything about the V-shape specifically, but i would definitely say that they were/are indicative of nutritional deficiencies. my toenails will have ridges corresponding to my nutritional state.

I'm 50 years old and just got over being ill for about a year. I couldn't  keep anything down. Now I have "V's" in my toenails. I thought it was a vitamine defiecency. Now I'm not sure. My fingernails are fine.

concave fingernails may be a result of iron defficiency

high angels of over 180 degrees is due to prolonged lack of oxygen

both of these will 'grow out' once treated...
