is organic worth it?

i know that there are some things that you should always buy organic, while other things you can get by without.

im wondering about the bumgenius one size diapers... im planning on ordering a couple dozen and the difference between the organic diapers and non-organic ones is about $145

i know i could pretty much get the rest of what i need for cloth diapering with that $145, but im also having the organic dilemma. the inner part that touches baby is what is organic, not the whole thing, if i understand right...

any thoughts?
thanks!

There are more differences between the two diapers than just organic/non organic. The organic ones are AIO diapers and the BG 3.0 are pocket diapers. The AIOs do not have a stay-dry inner and the pockets do. You just want to make sure you buy the kind of diaper you need.

Many people start to cloth diaper because their LOs have skin sensitivities, so they like more natural fabrics against the skin. Others find that their babies really need a stay-dry inner or they get irritation.

We use a combination of organic and non-organic diapers. For us, using all organic diapers isn't necessary. It really depends on your LO's needs.

im also hoping someone can help me with this... how long should it take to wash and dry the diapers if im doing about a dozen per load? can i machine dry or should it be hang dry only, and what will be the difference in time on those?

(complete n00b!)

I run my diapers through 2 complete cycles, so the washing takes about 1 1/2-2 hours. I usually hang my pockets and covers and they are dry in a couple of hours, less if they are outside. Inserts can be dry within 30-45 minutes in my dryer. AIOs will take longer since there's more attached to them and the air won't circulate around them as well, but AIOs like the BG organic don't have the soaker sewn in all the way so they will dry quicker than some others.

Occasionally I will dry my pockets and covers in the dryer, but I don't like to do this too often as I feel it's better for the elastic to hang dry.

The pockets definitly dry quicker than the AIO's. And I try to pull the covers out of the dryer after about 10-15 minutes as it is better for the elastic.

As far as the Organics being worth it or not, it's all up to you. I use both. I like Organic because it's organic and that is pretty much all. It costs more which is why we don't use all Organic Diapers and cloth in general is 100% better than disposables! Some babies (very rare cases) are allergic to synthetic fibers and they have to use cotton vs. polyester.

And debating between purchasing the AIO's or Pockets, why not try one of each first so you can see what they are like and then going from there. They both have their benefits for different reasons.

I'd get the organic Bum Genius OS AIO's. They are OS (where as the other AIO's are not) they are organic (which the regular AIO's and OS pockets are not) and they come in snaps now (which the other BG's do not).

I much prefer them because there is no stuffing involved, no aplix and no synthetic material touching my baby's bum.

I don't find that they take longer to dry, they are done with one cycle just like my pockets. But then, the inner material is not sewn completly like it is with the BG AIO's.

I agree, try one of each. I have more BG pockets than I do OS AIO's but I am seriously considering selling off my entire stash and investing in more of the organic ones (with snaps).
