All of the reciped I seem to find for starting water kefir say to use dry white figs. I don't think I've ever even seen dried white figs. Is there some other type of dried fruit that I can use successfully?

Check out the water kefir recipes thread. There are several ideas there.

I looked through the water kefir thread, but I didn't see anyone mention the dried fruit part. Don't I have to start with dried fruit??? Not getting this yet!

No, dried fruit isn't necessary. Some people like the taste but it's in no way necessary for the grains. When you say you are starting water kefir are you referring to making your first batch from grains you received? Are they dried or hydrated? I can help you figure out how to make a batch.

Yes, this is my first batch. I have a 4 oz. bottle of liquid with what appears to be 2 or so tablespoons of grains in it.

I found an alternative recipe on the internet and figured it out. Thanks for your help!
