How do you tie a Moby vs. non-strechy wrap?

I am trying to decide on a wrap for our expected #2 in October. I had a Maya wrap ring sling with DS, but it killed my shoulder. I would really like a real wrap to put on both shoulders at once.

The Moby sounds and looks great, especially that you can put it on and easily put the baby in and out. But I do worry about support as baby grows (DS gained weight FAST and my back had trouble). Can you tie a non-stretchy wrap on in the morning and put baby in and out all day? Or do you have to put baby on your chest, then wrap and tie? I don't think that would work for me with a toddler to chase, too.

I have pre-tied a woven wrap. I used a moby until DD was about 6 months and then got an Ellaroo woven. You have to get used to giving yourself a bit of extra space (but not too much) and it's a bit trickier to get the babe in and out than a moby. But not that hard. Just a bit more of a learning curve. I still think it's easier than tying in place for a front carry. (I have no problem tying in place on my back though.)

Agreed. Once you get the hang of how much "space" to leave, you can leave the woven wrap on pretied and pop the babe in and out in the front wrap cross carry.

Yep, this is what I do with my new babies and it doesn't take long before you know exactly how much space you need to leave for your little one.

ITA with PPs.
I actually learned on a gauze wrap first - Gypsy Mama Bali Breeze with no stretch. (It was August & Baltimore is HOT & humid & I heard Moby was hot.) It's a learning curve, but not too bad. The gauze is great for the summer, I got a Moby for winter (SUPER comfy) & a Storch for back carries. LOOOVE my wraps.

I second using a woven wrap. I pretie mine all the time. Sometimes I make it a bit loose but it only takes a second to pull it tighter once the baby is in.
My babe was born a shrimpy 6lbs11oz and was 14lbs by 2 months. I used the stretchy wrap until he was 18lbs at 4 months but at that point he was just waaay too heavy for it and I was using my arms to support him totally defeating the purpose of babywearing.
Stretchy wraps are wonderful for newborn snuggles though :

Thanks for the advice, everybody. I'll try to borrow a stretchy one for the first month or two rather than buy, then, and probably make a non-stretchy one (it's just a big old piece of fabric, right?)

We have a Moby. At first, it was easier for me to hold my DD and wrap us together. Now that she's older and a tiny bit less clingy, I can set her down to wrap first.

My problem with the wrap came mostly from using it in cold weather with all the layers of clothing. I decided I liked it best under my hoodie, especially since it was my maternity hoodie, so I could close it around us both if it was cold enough for that. Not to mention when she wasn't in it, no one would notice the excess draping fabric on me. But our Moby is black like my wardrobe, so it's not too noticeable anyway.
