Any medical transcriptionists who get paid based on minutes of dictation?

I work from home doing medical transcription for a small local hospital. I'm about to start working for a larger "chain" of hospitals and clinics, and I'll be getting paid per minute of dictation that I type. I've never heard of this type of pay, so I don't have anything to compare the pay rate to. If you're getting paid per minute of dictation produced and wouldn't mind sharing your rate of pay per minute, I would really appreciate it. You could PM me if you don't want to post it publicly. At a hospital where I used to work, we were paid by the minute of dictation. I can't remember exactly how the formula worked, but they decided there was something like 10 transcribed lines in one minute of dictation - so, if you had 100 minutes of dictation, that would be 1000 lines. You then multiply those 1000 lines by whatever your rate of pay is.

Does that make sense? I'm so sleepy right now that this probably isn't making much sense. I'll revisit again in the morning and you can let me know if you have any other questions

ETA: I think we were making 0.11/line at the time too, so with my above example, that would be $110.00.

Yeah...I see what you're saying, but this pay has nothing to do with number of lines. It's just strictly based on minutes of dictation. I'm getting $1.06 per minute of dictation, so if I type a 5-minute report, I get $5.30 for the report, no matter how many lines it is.

Well, thats like getting almost 9.5 cents/line so thats not too bad, especially as a subcontractor or an employee. I'm also a subcontractor for a national and make 0.9/line. It may not be "worth it" on some reports, especially if you have a fast dictator or an ESL dictator, but then if you have one who pauses a lot and you're not just straight typing the entire length of the dictation, it wouldn't be too bad. It probably all evens out in the end.
