Cloth Menstrual Pads

Not sure where to post this question!

I'm switching to cloth pads, but I'm not sure if I should go with the All in ones or the 2 piece pads.

If you use coth pads which do you prefer?

Any other advice for a first time cloth user?

I prefer the AIO's. Mine are from homemade mama - Peggy - but she's out of business or I can't find her sight.

I got a hemp/org cotton pkg that has wings and snaps on and LOVE them.

I made mine but I much prefer the AIO. It's just easier. Less things to keep track of.

When I started making them for sale I stuck with the idea of All in Ones based on personal experience -- I just found them so much less cumbersome, easy to locate pieces in the wash.

i have several different types, i have some i bought from an etsy seller. they were awesome. i have some sorella luna unbleach organic cotten pads , less awesome but still good. and i have happy heineys, my favorite, they are soft they mold to your body because they are super flexible.
cloth pads are so much better than anything disposable. i actually don't mind starting my period anymore.
oh and all in ones all the way.

I made some 2 part ones where the pad snaps into place, but I like the few AIO's that I made better. Even though the other ones were snapped in, I still found them shifty. Might have jsut been my design, though.

I'll be making/using aio's from now on...

I really love bamboo velour topped pads for day and fleece ones at night. I have mostly AIO pads, but found that snap in pads are good on the go since it's less bulk to carry around.

I like AIOs. I hate when I cannot find multiple pieces after laundry day.

I have tried a lot of styles and brands, and above all else, I'm a big fan of Mommy's Touch and Happy Heiny's cloth pads. Both brands have a top layer of super soft fleece (which keeps moisture away from your body) and they are form-fitting--they don't bunch or feel bulky.

In my opinion, I would go for the all in ones. I have used cloth pads for 4 years now and I find that the fold-over ones are the worst...they bunch up and move around. The all-in-ones that are just one piece with snapping wings and a fleece backing are GREAT. I love them. Sadly the woman who I ordered from 4 years ago is no longer around, or at least, I can't find her. These have held up 4 years! They're great.

I prefer a all in one. I have a stash of PUl all in ones and fleece backed all in ones. I also use unbacked pads when my flow is lighter. I would suggest getting a few and including Minky topped ones. I love those!

Motherculture, I just ordered a diaper from you (the pt reyes one) and I didnt realize you live so close! (Im in downtown Sacramento) I LOVE that diaper and I cant wait to put it on the little one and now that I know you make cloth pads too, Ill have to take a look!!

Just to speak on behalf of a system that isn't AIO-

The reason why I like my lunapads (which I have had for years, so there weren't so many choices... don't know what I'd try now-I like the sound of velour!) that have the loose pieces... they tuck into straps: I find it convenient to turn them over without changing pad. Especially in certain situations.

I have to say, though, that I like my panty liners from there best which is clearly an all in one, but it has no inner moisture repelling layer, so not great for heavy flow. But also very breathable for this reason.

Plus, as I said, I have had them for years. And there is no excuse for me to replace them. They're as good as new...

I just switched, and ended up making my own all-in-ones. Love them!!

I also just got an IUD, though, and so they haven't been dealing with the really heavy flow - I'm planning on making a couple with rick-rack or similar that I can put a liner on if necessary (like Lunapads). Right now, though, a few layers of flannel or flannel with some terry in the middle is really doing the trick!

Today was my 1st day using a cloth pad, so I'm not exactly the most experienced user, but I have to say, I loved using them! They were comfy and much better than disposable pads, IMO. I bought Fussybutt and this etsy seller, both AIOs.
