The Quarrel. I saw it in Toronto about 12 years ago in a theatre and once late at night on CBC. I have tried in vain to find it on video but it seems to have vanished. It was the most amazing movie! There are basically only two characters in it. The movie begins with two men meeting on a walk through a park in Montreal. They recognize one another as childhood friends, they were children at the time of the Holocaust. Both were the only survivors from their families and one has become a profoundly devout Jew because of the experience and the other has become an atheist. They meet, they discuss, they remember, they argue, all in the park. Neither changes the other's mind but there is a beautiful scene at the end with the two old friends laughing, weeping, singing and dancing together in this park in the middle of the city. It is one of the most riveting and profoundly beautiful films I have ever seen. How I wish I could see it again and someday share it with my children!
I also loved Shawshank Redemption, The Color Purple, The Fisher King and anything Little Bear
