TF acronyms, abbreviations, terminology

Thread Starter
We have had some newcomers recently (welcome! ).

Here's a list of the most commonly used TF acronyms, abbreviations, and other terminology:
  • ACV - apple cider vinegar
  • CLO - cod liver oil
  • CO - coconut oil
  • EFLF - Eat Fat, Lose Fat
  • EVCO/VCO - extra virginia coconut oil, or virgin coconut oil
  • EVO - extra virgin olive oil
  • kefir - a yummy fermented dairy or non-dairy drink. The dairy version is made by fermenting milk, and the non-dairy version, called water kefir, is made by fermenting juice or sugar water.
  • kefir grains - a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast that clumps together into grainlike clusters, also described by many as little cauliflowerets. It is the starter culture for kefir
  • kombucha - a yummy fermented drink made with sweetened tea
  • Mother - refers to a culture starter, especially in reference to vinegars
  • NT - Nourishing Traditions
  • Scoby - Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast (refers to a kombucha starter culture, or "mother". Kombucha starters are also sometimes called kombucha mushrooms.)
  • SF - Sally Fallon - founder of WAPF, TF advocate, and author of Nourishing Traditions and Eat Fat, Lose Fat
  • TF - traditional foods, traditional foodist
  • WAP - Weston A. Price
  • WAPF - Weston A. Price Foundation

That's what I could think of from the top of my head. Please add any others I left out!

Great idea! Here's a few more:

  • BO - Butter oil (often seen in combination with Cod Liver Oil as CLO/BO)
  • GF - Gluten free (while not a TF term per se, it's something that's commonly discussed here)
  • CF - Casein Free (again, not a TF term but commonly discussed)

CF always throws me off, I always think they mean corn free before I remember its casein free.

Totally OT, but I live near Philly & every time I see those oval bumper stickers that say CM (for Cape May, NJ), I *always* think "cervical mucous."

How about HVCLO (high vitamin CLO)? Though we may not be discussing that one so much in the near future....
