Love Twilight the movie - Page 2

My sister and I had heard about the series and the movie. We both wanted to see the movie, but we wanted to read the books first. We had a plan for Christmas break to see the movie, so we both bought Twilight. Now we have both read all 4 books plus MS. We are kind of obsessed. We saw the movie. She LOVED it. For me it was ok. Some of the make-up was over the top I feel (Carlisle's face and Edwards eyeliner ) And Jasper bugged me a lot. I loved the casting for Bella, Alice, Rosalie and Jessica. Actually I loved all of the casting except for Jasper. Yes, the visual effects were kind of silly, but the scenery was awesome. And I didn't like some of the "freedoms" the movie took with the book. For example (and spoilers)-

1. I didn't like how violent Edward was with Bella. He would have never dragged her by the arm. When he was going through his rant ("As if you could run from me.." etc.) He was being pretty harsh. That scene was supposed to be playful (right before the baseball game.)

2. Bella was kind of forceful. She would have never made Edward follow her to the forest. And that scene in the forest? Although visually stunning- that scene was supposed to take place in the car coming back from Port Angeles.

3. I get that they needed the murders in order to introduce James and Co., but when Bella first starts suspecting Edward, she thinks about these things. It just felt wrong.

4. I know this point is very nitpicky- but when Bella gets out of the cab to go to the ballet studio- the ground is wet! How often does it rain in Phoenix? It was annoying.

Ok- I'm done with my Twilight- the movie rant

It will be interesting to see how NM pans out.

Oh, and of course I'm going to buy the DVD when it comes out

I thought Alice, Jasper, and especially Jacob were the best casting choices. I hated the casting choice for Rosalie so much. I think that was blatant nepotism from the director.

Ok we watched the movie the other night and I laughed most of the way through it. It was awful. I really wish I'd just read the books and never seen it.

They went so fast through the whole Edward/Bella stuff that once James showed up, it didn't have that climatic thing going. I know its a movie and they have to cut some stuff out, but the stuff they added in could have been left out imo. And some of the things Edward said and did didn't feel like something he would actually be doing, the bouncing around in the trees bit was so unlike how he was in the books.

I'm not a Robert Pattinson fan, but I think he did pretty well. The weird makeup, especially Carlisle's, was just awful. I thought the casting was pretty good, Jasper just seemed a little weird though.

And isn't the house supposed to be white? Those little things bothered me the most I think.

After reading the book, I couldn't reconcile the house with the one in the movie, either. I just bought the movie and it will be interesting to watch it after having read the book. Now that I've read Twilight and New Moon and seen it so clearly in my mind, it's hard to remember what was in the movie versus the book. Dh is going to watch it with me which should be interesting. I think he thinks that I've lost my mind a little with the Twilight stuff. I don't think that movies generally live up to the books (the 6 hour Pride and Prejudice and To Kill a Mockingbird are two notable exceptions), but since I saw the movie first it just sucked me in!

I think the movie is exactly what the book is: just plain fun. Imo, both are laughable at times but hey, it's entertainment for me.

(I do have feminist/humanist type issues with Bella and her relationships with people but again, it's entertainment...)

I just saw it this weekend, after having read the books over a year ago. I was really disappointed in the movie. So much was missing. I never felt that the Cullens or even Edward loved Bella by the end. So much detail was missing, even for a movie. I guess I was expecting Harry Potter sepecatular & got an ok movie.

I just watched the movie and I haven't read the books yet but I'm going to asap. Patterson is soooooo sexy...oh, my goodness. I came onto mdc just to say that

Well last night was the second time that I've watched the movie(I bought it yesterday), dh's first. This was however, the first time that I watched the movie after reading Twilight and NM. After the books, it did feel like so much was missing from the movie, so I understand the complaints. It was fun to talk about it with dh and I was so excited that he liked it. I think that without the books, the movie gives you what you need, but once, you know so much more about what else is going on, it's hard to just go by what they give you. BUT the movie gives you Rob Patinson and that is such a good thing! I even really liked all of the scenes of staring at each other, just to remember that new love I just have to look at you to memorize your face feeling. Aaaaaaahhhhhhh. In that vein I also really enjoyed the scene where they were at the top of the tree and just hanging out and talking and we couldn't hear them at all but they looked so comfortable and happy there. (It didn't really make sense with her klutziness, but that wasn't as played up in the movie so I thought for the movie it worked.) Off to scarf up some Midnight Sun so that my day can get going!

I loved the casting, except Emmett. He just didn't seem pretty enough to be a vampire. Jessica and Angela are fairly minor characters, but I was pleased to see that some thought went into casting even these roles.

I loved Robert Pattinson except when he was speaking. I think his acting was weak, maybe because he was having to concentrate on suppressing his accent. He doesn't do an American accent nearly as well as Hugh Laurie.

Overall, though, I really liked the movie.

I just saw the movie and I was disappointed. Sure it wasn't supposed to be an Oscar winner but I really felt like there was no emotional connection between Edward and Bella at all. I hated the casting for Carlisle and Jasper and the make up was awful.

I would've loved this movie so much when I was 15.

Mamafreya, I HATED the make up too!!!! Aren't vampire supposed to not change? Why did Edward have a 5 o'clock shaddow in one scene, & then not in another. Sometimes he was pale, other times he looked really warm. & Carlise, please...that looked awful! The only vampire that looked like I pictured was Alice.

Really? I didn't think he was violent enough. It was supposed to be scary. It was the scariest part of the book the thought that he might eat her. The movie was never that threatening. He may as well have had a set of plastic halloween fangs as scary as he was.

I laughed out loud when I read this.
ButI must confess--I didn't like HP--the books or the movies...and didn't even see all of the movies...sorry!

But my neighbor insists that I will love Twilight--so, books or movie first?

You know, I don't know. I read all the books first, then watched the movie. Dh got about half way through the first book and watched the movie and he thought the end half of the movie was really good. I thought it was awful all around.

I'd read the books first and then the movie I think. I always tend to do the books first, but I think the movie really does make more sense if you read the book.

Did you all notice they skipped the whole part about James explainging where Alice came from? I thought that was a great piece in the book and was disappointed it didn't make it into the movie.

Yes, my dh and I were laughing at the make up. Especially Carlisle. Holy cow it was just so bad. I really think that they should've just kept them clean shaven and maybe put some light loose powder on them or something. Anything would've been better than whatever that stuff was that was caked all over poor Carlisle. Plus he looked nothing like I had imagined.

Yep Alice and Esme(sp?) IMO were cast the best as far as the vamps went.

I would go with the books first. The movie left a lot out especially the history of the vampires. Also the whole love story aspect was just so cold. If I had to choose then I would be much happier with the books.

I'll probably buy the movie too.:

My friend has a song in the movie...I might see it. Should I read the book first? Is there a big difference in the book and movie?

Since the question has been asked I'll say that I vote Movie first. I agree that the books are better and you'll understand more of the backstories but then you're left frustrated by what's not in the movie. Because so few movies live up to their movies I recommend seeing the movie first and then you can enjoy both -- as I have with Twilight. (The exception is if it's a classic. Then I think that you have to do the book first.) Just my opinion, but most people I know who have read Twilight are disappointed with the movie while many who saw the movie first are thrilled with both.
Really you just need your dose of Edward, however you can get it. We all do don't we?

Yeah that!

I also that Kristen Stewart's Bella was really twitchy. It got to the point where she'd go to answer a question and every.single.time would look like a fish out of water or like she forgot her line.

That being said... I can look past all that. It wasn't an Oscar-winning movie... but it's good fluff. I like fluff.

I'm interested in seeing the others also.

I also vote movie first.

I tried reading the book long ago and couldn't/wouldn't suffer thru the horrible writing, but my dad assured me the movie was really good (and he loathes anything that can be considered a "chick flick" and doesn't care for vampire stuff particularly) so I bought it.

I've yet to watch it. I keep forgetting about it. But, the book is such an example of horrible writing that I vote watch the movie first, b/c that's what I'm going to do. If I like the movie as much as my dad assured me I will, I'll try to suffer thru the books.

And, I looooooved the Harry Potter books, but after the second movie, they should have stopped making them. The films are absolutely horrid, post-Chamber of Secrets.

OK I clearly have a problem but here's my theory. I've seen the movie 3 times - once at the theater before I'd read the books, once after Twilight and NM with my husband 2 nights ago, and once just now while my 2 year old and I did puzzles on the floor.
The movie is just hypnotic if you can just throw yourself into it. If you've read the books first this is harder to do because you are comparing and contrasting. The second time that I watched it was the least satifsying because I kept seeing what was left out and not just rolling with it. Dh however, really enjoyed it which surprised me. He's not joining me in Twilightaholics or anything, but he enjoyed the ride of the movie. Granted the makeup is questionable at times, but if you just ride the visual and musical show it creates such a mood. I think that the director did a fabulous job and I'm bummed that she won't be doing NM.
Thanks for letting me go on yet again about Twilight! I have to spread out my thoughts. If I share all of them with one person, I will definitely be committed!
