I hope all is fine now. That sounds very scary.

You know, I thought of that.... but it just doesn't feel like that was it, kwim? Of course I'm not even going to chance testing it. Plus, it wasn't anything like the faces/sounds/etc. that she makes when she's actually gagging on food. And the fact that her behavior has been all wacky since then...

I trust your eyes.

MyLittleWonders- what you described sounds like OAS to me- it's oral allergy syndrome, and it's usually linked to environmental allergies.
Thanks for the explanation. Sorry to hear she is wired now. We've btdt too many times. And OMG on the price for the compounding!!! Unreal.

cs, im so sorry you both went through that today! i feel so badly, you must've been really frightened.
i love pineapple, but i find it really irritating and stopped eating it - it makes my throat really sore. her throat might be bothering her too. it sounds like, whether it was an allergy or oas, she is having some sort of reaction in the way of hyperactivity and hunger/thirst.
i hope she is able to rest tonight, but it seems like she might have a bit of fallout from it. i think you're doing the best things with the epsom bath and vit c and letting her eat/drink. best wishes for some rest and recovery, mama!

1) it's like raw tomatoes - it can cause a histamine release from cells in certain susceptible people (high histamine/undermethylated?) which could account for any red contact rash, and maybe even a throat reaction?

2) it's high in proteases (protein enzymes) and that's part of why if you eat too much pineapple, your mouth feels all cut up.
: #2 happens to me every time!

Sorry for the compounding price and the scare!!! Our ped just recommended we get some Benedryl 'in case' (she said if we have it we won't need it), but isn't there something homeopathic I could give too? I'll have both on hand!!!

i just saw this.

that would have been very scary.

we just started rotating peanuts a few rotations ago. today, DD1 said she was having trouble breathing. i just about jumped into the car and drove the 20 minutes to the ER. however, it turned out, she was sitting funny and once she got up and moved around she was fine.

i want an epi on hand just in case, now. i was SCARED.

all that to say, i know how you feel, mama. and i'm sorry the benedryl was so expensive.

Oh wow- you had a bit of a freak out too!!

We had a pretty rough night (no big surprise).... last night was the first time that we actually had tantrums in the middle of the night. :yawning:

update

It was definitely a reaction. First the middle of the night tantrums, then DD's face was all flared up the next day....

But I've been giving her vitamin C mixed in some honey, and put some bentonite clay in her bath last night, and today she is looking (and acting) much better!! The eczema just bubbled, never opened all the way up, and today is already almost gone. Yay!

Sounds like you've weathered the worst of the storm then, eh? And answers are good. I love that she's healing so quickly... I think you guys are on a good track. Its so exciting!

Yeah- I am really impressed with how quickly the reactions are moving through her these days. This one I expected to be BAD because it was bubbling up on her cheeks, her chin, and her stomach.

Glad she's okay and getting better. Are you on the foodlab yahoo group? They just had a discussion recently on what first ana reactions look like in toddlers. What happened to your DD sounds a lot like what they described

Really? Not that I want to hear it... but it's good to know. I'm not on that group. Maybe I should go check it out.

I finally managed to read this thread.
cs. I'm sorry that happened. It sounds so scary.
I'm glad she's doing better now.

wow. i'm sorry it turned out to be a real rxn, but i'm happy for you that you seem to have come through relatively unscathed. in the scheme of things, pineapple is a "good" one to be allergic to, though, right? since it's easy to avoid/not a central part of the north american diet...

That's true- it's much easier to avoid than many things. If only it were her only allergy...

Do you have an epi-pen on hand, for the future?
