Wear newborn AND toddler at the same time?

Does anyone do this? How? Which carriers do you use? I would like to be able to carry my newborn on the front, and the toddler on the back. I am sure it must be possible, just not sure about the logistics

I needed to do this when my son was born (my daughter was 26 mos at the time). I wore my son on the front in a mei tai and my daughter on the back in another mei tai and would do the straps back pack style. I put my daughter first, since I had to bend forward to get her on my back, and then tie on my son in the front and cross the straps on the back over my daughter. They would nap like this.

I haven't worn the newborn and the toddler together yet as DH is still off work and wears the toddler for me.

But I have worn two similar size kids before, twice. They were both about 20 pounds.
So once, I had mine on the back in the mei tai and put the other on the front in an Ergo. The other time I had one on the back in a mei tai and the other on the front (tummy to tummy hold) in a ring sling.

With a newborn you need to be careful that you aren't tying the toddler over top of the newborn, but you can tie the newborn over top of the toddler. But you can really use whatever carriers you want--mei tais, SSCs, ring slings, wraps, all seem to work, you just have to figure out the best order for putting them on.

I mean, you could put the toddler on the back in a ring sling (I've not tried that, but people do) and then put the newborn on the front in another ring sling on the other shoulder.
Or have them both in mei tais, with the toddler tied ruck style. Or have the newborn in a wrap and the toddler in an SSC or mei tai. Or...or...or...pick your favourite carriers, really.

I used to do this to go for walks and hikes without the stroller. I would put my youngest in a sling on my front, either sitting upright or lying down against my chest and belly, or slightly off to the side in a modified hip-sit. (I used my Maya Wrap ring sling or my Sakura Bloom ring sling.) My oldest went on my back in my BabyHawk mei tai. I can still do this with them, but they're getting a little heavy now at 36 and 32 pounds.

: I use the framed backpack carrier for the toddler and a MT for the baby.

I've done it with two mei tais. Baby on the front and toddler on the back. I put the toddler on first and then the baby.

Thanks for your replies! I was thinking of two MTs as well, and while it's basically common sense to put the toddler on first, being able to visualize how to do it does help! I really admire you for being able to do that... I will see how it works out for me.

Little grey mare, what's wrong with the framed backpack? I have been tempted by those as well.

I put my toddler on my back in a wrap and the baby on my front in the ring sling.
