My 2.5 yo DS gets a nasty, painful diaper rash, mainly around his anus, whenever a poop sits in his diaper for too long. (We of course change them as soon as we notice, but sometimes they go undetected for a while.) Today they missed one at his preschool and his poor bum is so sore.
We diagnosed his food allergies via a similar rash that he'd get after eating milk or soy. I'm worried these rashes are indicative of another allergy.
Is it normal for a toddler/preschooler to get a rash from a poop left in his dipe, even if it's only for like 1/2 hour? Or is this something I need to investigate?
It was so tough to finally figure out the milk/soy thing. I'm dreading another experience like that. I'm so depleted energywise as it is, with getting used to caring for a toddler and new baby. But I don't want to be injuring my kid's gut (or his poor bum!) Thoughts?
