ikea mattress cover - safety?

Hi! I just bought some thing that is like a sheet from Ikea, but waterproof. Thinking it would be great for all the pee that the kids manage to get into the mattress... their father said he almost picked up the same thing but didn't because "who knows what kind of chemicals they use to make it waterproof."

Gah I didn't even think of that!! The materials are 80% cotton, 20% polyester, and then the "surface coating" is polyurethane. It doesn't say anything else, and I would have normal sheets over top of this.

In your opinion, is this something to be worried about and return? I'm happy to return it.. but would like some opinions. Thank you!!

I don't know how safe it would be... is it washable? if you decide to keep it i would run it through the washer once and then let if air dry and off gas.

Isn't polyurethane what the PU in PUL stands for? Like in diaper covers.
