We've been referred to a pediatric dentist for mild sedation for DD to get 2 cavities filled. They gave us an appointment for this Tuesday, the next available one is weeks away, but they advised not waiting because they think she is in pain because they are BAD, just not able to articulate it. I agree with the pain assessment, as her behavior has changed dramatically in the last month or so, she is constantly cranky or angry, fighting us on everything and just not being very pleasant to be around.
DP is fighting me on this, saying they are pushing us too fast with the Tuesday appointment, and he is worried about the sedation its self. I do not know the name of the med they will use, they don't decide until they meet the child and determine how out of it they need to be. DP expressed that to him it was the same as a major surgery under general, which makes no sense to me because it isn't the same.
I had so much dental work as a kid, and a lot of it was done by a nasty abusive dentist and was traumatic. I am trying to save DD from that kind of experience. She did great for the cleaning and check up, but I do not want to take the chance of scaring her by trying to do the fillings while she is fully awake and aware.
I don't know how else to get through to DP about this. I hate to have to just go over him and get it done, but I'm not going to let DD sit here and get to the point of needing a root canal.
