Is anyone else interested in seeing this film?
I just finished reading the graphic novel so I'm really psyched about seeing this film.
Anyone?

DH just bought tickets at the IMAX. Unfortunately, I'm scheduled to work and can't go, but he and the boys are going. He's wicked excited.

Did you read it?
The trailers look pretty true to the novel (with the exception of the hideous costumes in the graphic novel- YUCK!).
I'm pretty excited to see it, too. It looks very good!

Aw, that's too bad. Your boys will probably love it!
The graphic novel has some adult parts but I'm sure it'll be fine.

Yeah, well....they're not little boys. I'm sure if they can handle Team America and Tokyo Gore Police, Watchmen will be okay.

I'm waiting for the graphic novel from the library. Can't wait to read it. I hope the movie is good!

My dd is eight and I would NOT let her watch without me knowing what they put in it first. If they did it like the book I would say "Heck no!"

I would probably let a 13 year old but not really any younger

I heard they changed the ending so it might not be as violent, he gets edited a lot, that League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie sucked but the comic is good. I am really not sure how it will turn out.

Oh I kind of like the costumes in the novel, they match the story anyways. Most of the characters are not really sane so it makes it more garish.

Heck yeah I really want to see it but I probably won't be able to until it's on DVD.

A friend lent me the graphic novel and I started to read it but for some reason graphic novels and me just don't jive. I can't ever read them. If it were in just plain novel form I'd love it though, I'm sure.

I have the graphic novel sitting on my table but haven't had a chance to read it yet :-/ I AM planning on watching it this weekend though....Reviews say it IS quite true to the comic but it's also reallyyyyyy long. We'll see!

Dh saw it and said it was good but Dr. Manhattan's penis gets a lot of screen time.

I know next to nothing about the novel or the movie, so that may lack context.

My DH saw it and said it was ok. He said that are lots of penis shots (his male co-worker was very disturbed by this, lol) and he said the worst part is that it is EXTREMELY violent (and if my DH thinks it's violent, it's got to be pretty violent, usually that stuff doesn't really faze him). So, it does not sound like a movie to take an 8 yr old to if you ask me.

ohh heck no, i wouldn't take an 8yo. and i am pretty liberal about stuff like that in general.

i didn't think it was that good TBH. hadn't read the novel or anything, so my opinion might not be what you're after :

I watched the movie with my husband a week or two ago.

I would have walked out, but I didn't want to leave DH. He would have left with me, but I knew he wanted to watch it.

I ain't no sissy-pants, but the violence was really difficult for me. Well, mainly the violence against the women. It was just sick.

*Spoilers*

The near-rape. The pregnant woman. The child's body and the dogs. I'm still disturbed.

I did like the end, however, and some of the scenes were very visually stimulating.

Well, my 16 yo and his friend went to see it last night, and they didn't like it.

So, we got to the IMAX and tickets were sold out for the night.

Ended up going and buying tickets to Cats for next month and then going to a game store and buying a new board game.

Then got to pick DS up from his sleepover to find he had a 102.5 temp. He's still totally sick, so I'm glad we ended up being home to pick him up.

I thought the film was amazing.

I think the graphic novel is a work of genius, and the film was VERY true to it. They cut more than an HOUR from the theatre release, so the portions that are missing will be included in the DVD.

If one hasn't read the book and really thought about it, I can imagine how the film would seem too slow and grim.

It is not a bang-pow-zowee "super-hero" story about black and white good-guys and villains, and so it was deemed "unfilmable" by some directors for 20 years.

This is not a film or gnovel for children. There is a reason why it was released on a cold weekend in March. There is a reason why there was no fast-food-with-toys deal.

Yes, there is indeed a naked man in the story. He's also bright blue and can manipulate matter at the neutrino level.... So he obviously doesn't CARE about being naked. This is one of the POINTS of the story.

Watchmen is grinding, gritty, bleak and mature. It doesn't turn away or blink. But, even with all of this, there is a glimmer of hope for humanity at the very end of the gnovel, and that is what makes Watchmen special.

For these reasons, I would not be surprised if it doesn't do really well, but I could hardly be happier with the dedication of the film. The change at the end bothered me a bit, but I don't think it changed the spirit.

Amazing job done, and I wish I could thank the team that made it possible.

Trin.
