Or maybe not.

absolutely loving the growth, healing and joy around here. Two nights in a row of sleeping through the night. Yeah!!!!!! Turns out my youngest is allergic to allergy-c, and detox responding to natural calm (at least that's what my crystal is saying) I need to get some of Cs's yucky tasting mag.

Want to write more but a lovely apartment just opened up that we need to check out wish us luck and a steady mind tomake a decision.

DS seems to be okay after the potato-carrot water in the pot roast last night. His mood is okay today and slept fine last night (and everyone else did too).

I did a little muscle testing on him this morning because I REALLY want to try to make coffeecake or cinnamon rolls (without the cinnamon of course). He tested okay to yeast (which was a orange/medium intolerance on ALCAT) but bad to guar gum (which must be why that aweseome bread made his stomach worse). He says he's still at a 1 (on the 1-10 pain scale). I wish I had something that would hold stuff together (egg OR guar gum OR xanthan gum OR gelatin), but I've got nothing. Is there an edible epoxy?

Yes iodized salt has corn in it. I now have a little tupperware shaky thing that I'm carrying around with sea salt in it (I found it in my junk drawer when I cleaned it out a few days ago).

I have been sleeping better since starting the Adrenal Support and B-complex. Do those have anything to do with sleep?

The snow is really starting to come down, and DH's follow up cardiologist appointment is tomorrow (to figure out about the hole in his heart). It's about 40 minutes away on a good day. And we're supposed to be in the middle of a Nor'easter tomorrow with 6-12". That should be fun. And if it's a snow day, I have to leave all 3 kids with my father and his girlfriend, instead of just DD2 (they have 2 cats and DD1 is allergic to them). And they're the ones with candy all over their house for my kids to get into. That should be fun.

Kathy, I'm so psyched the your DS is feeling better! I can't imagine having pain at a 4 all. the. time.!!! Are you going back for more treatments? What a change!

I forget, can you do tapioca? Sometimes if I use a lot of tapioca starch that helps hold things together. Good luck with your day today. I hope the follow up goes well, and your kids dodge the candy!

(Oh, it's the B-6 that is associated with dreams - so poss. the B-complex could help your sleep? Or both! I dunno!)

I wanted to respond to others to, but I don't know if I can keep it all straight...

mtn.mama - I second what cs said. You know you are smart and strong! Yay for broccoli!

ellasmama - I second what mtn.mama said. Yay for wonderful SAFE foods!

Jacqueline - I have got to take a clue from you and post my off-topic comments to other threads here!! Yay for the 3rd trimester! Ditto what you said about the juice (aka homeopathy).

I looked over that article New Mama posted, and I'm just as lost as before. I will have to wait for WuWei and whoMe to puzzle it out!

Mammo - Good luck with the apartment! I trust that it will be if it's meant to be!

Hope you ladies have a great day!

Pantothenic acid (B5) is HIGHLY correlated with sleep for me... B6 helps, too.

His pain is usually a 4-6. It's so nice to see him acting normally and not complaining all the time. The osteopath wanted to see him again in 2.5-3 weeks. He said with kids, sometimes it only takes a couple of sessions. It makes me want to bring DD2, but will a 3 year old lay still enough for it to work? It was hard enough for an 8yo!

I used tapioca starch. But the coffeecake I just made came out very... gelatinous on the inside. The outside is nice and crusty and yummy, but the middle (anything 1/2" in or more) is very ... strange. DS just ate 3 pieces and declared it wonderful. I put it in for another 10 minutes to see if it helps... I soooo want something decadent like monkey bread or coffeecake or a cinnamon roll.

DH thinks he has a cold coming on so I gave him the zinc lozenges that I thought tasted so disgusting. He thought they tasted fine. Huh.

I don't. Why do you think my house is trashed? I do as much as I can with the energy I have and then I sit around (usually on MDC ).
So *that's* the secret her pie crust! It occurs to me that it would make no sense that I could eat the grease but not the meat...

I'm glad your DS (and everyone else) slept well and doesn't seem to be reacting to the cc'd beef.
I actually seem to remember reading something about an edible epoxy, actually... It was, of course, totally chemical... It probably had corn in it.

I have 2 camping salt shakers (double sided). I carry safe (homemade) seasoning salt in one and safe salt and pepper in the other. I also keep a little bag of safe condiments in the fridge for when we go to the city so that DS doesn't have to have tasteless food when we go to Red Robin's. I got the little bottles they sell in the camping section for shampoo and stuff and filled them with ketchup, mustard, mayo (which I need to find a sub for) and a balsamic vinaigrette (which he likes). I also have a small container (1/4 cup) filled with a safe margarine (although again I have to find a new one) in the bag. They also get sent to school with him for seasoning his food. I want to make up a second "set" so that I don't have to search all over the place for them because he's almost *always* taken them to school the day before we're going to the city.

I know that many rehab centers give their clients B-complex when they first enroll. Partly because the research shows that addicts are usually severely deprived of B-vites and partly to help with sleep. As for the Adrenal Support, my ND told me that it should help me get to sleep earlier and sleep more deeply since the adrenals are what produce the chemicals needed to regulate sleep.

I had the same problem with a cake I made. I wasn't sure if it was the tapioca starch or the sweet rice flour... I thought maybe both (or maybe something entirely else ).
I have a recipe for baking soda biscuits that I've been meaning to tweak and perfect, but it contains soy flour *and* xanthan, and it turns out a little too dry... and it doesn't rise well. It's edible, but it's more like a pastry crust. When I manage to find all of my flours so I can bake again (they're still packed ), I'll see what I can do with it. I used to use my baking soda biscuit recipe to make butterscotch rolls (like cinnamon rolls w/o the cinnamon) when I didn't have the patience to make bread dough.
I went into a long diatribe here about my DH's palette. Apparently the internet gremlins think I don't need to share that though, because they deleted it.

Can I join? I have been lurking here so long... on and off because we are travelling. We actually live in China, but are in the US right now.
Dd (33 mos) has/had a bunch of allergies/intolerances. We have been avoiding a long list of foods and with that dd still had bad, itchy and burning eczema on her legs, arms and under her chin. SB suggested a while ago that she might have issues with her liver, which made a lot of sense to me. Interestingly enough my grandmother had liver issues, and I think some of my mother's mysterious health problems might be related to liver stuff (and a mouth full of amalgams).
When we came to the US we went to see a doctor who does Craniobiotic Technique. He evaluated dd (through muscle testing) and figured out that most of her issues were related to a virus in her liver, which caused her liver to not function very well at all. He treated it (with CBT, which is supposed to stimulate the brain and immune system to get rid of the virus). He also treated a few allergies (figured out she was only allergic to dairy, wheat, soy and msg... although she kept reacting and he later found citrus, chocolate and dust as well). Interestingly enough she didn't have any deficiencies or metal issues according to him (did find some parasites and mold, which is to be expected for where we live). He also evaluated me and treated me for candida and some pancreas issues. Also no metals, but a huge vit D deficiency.
So, her skin has been pretty much cleared, her moods are so much better and she sleeps. Every now and then she does seem to have potty accidents more than I think is really "normal", if that makes sense.

The focus on healing that is here has really been resonating with me. I want to learn more and have an attitude of "we are healing", which is hard for me after avoiding so much for so long. We are now eating most things, except dairy (I do goat kefir), soy, wheat, msg and artificial stuff. I love the idea of going with what feels right, and especially with healing with food. I am tired of supplements, although we still take more than anyone I know.

The thing is that dd is breaking out again. With all the memories of her crying, scratching and being so very miserable, just flooding back, it is hard to remember to focus on healing. I gave dd some kefir on Wednesday (I have been taking it for about two weeks now), and she seemed to get constipated - didn't poop for three days. At the same time though I started taking a drop of liquid kelp a day, because we don't eat much seafood and I think my thyroid can do with some help. Now I am wondering if I am moving too fast with the kefir for her (she hasn't been interested in it again, even mixed with carob and honey, and she doesn't do smoothies or ice cream) or the kelp is moving toxins in me and overwhelming her liver.

I have a bunch of questions that I will eventually ask as I wade through all the info on detox stuff. I am so thankful for all you wise mamas!

Is CBT similar to CST?

If she's breaking out again, are you SURE that she can handle goat milk? Many people who can't do cow dairy also can't do goat dairy.

I have to try making ketchup again for DS. He loved ketchup on his hamburger. Even the one sweetened with agave has citric acid (just noticed the other day -- nobody has been having it for a while anyway but I decided to look at it for some reason). I should do that with MY salad dressing so that I don't have to have dry salad when we go out. You're full of great ideas today!!

Without anything to hold them together it's just hard. And DS doesn't want me to experiment with things he can't have. That bread I'd been makin,g that was sooooooo good would still work for DD2 and me, but I don't want him to feel bad. I want an egg salad sandwich so bad. I could make a loaf while he was at school and DD2 and I could eat the whole thing before he gets home! That's a plan (mooooooooooooo).

I had the same thought as well as wondering if she was off all gluten, rather than just wheat.
MSG is often soy or wheat based, so that makes sense to me... Although I've also heard it's corn.
Remember too that caramel coloring is dairy, wheat or corn based.

I was going to say I'd see what I could do to make it safe for him, but then I remembered he can't do rice. I could try it with sorghum...
What about flax "eggs"? I use a flax egg in my biscuit recipe.
I'm pming you... I might have an idea you could use.

Kathy - we got a pork gelatin powder from the health food store. Can you do pork? I will give more info if needed. We can't do guar gum either. It is tough to do baked goods. I havnt been successful only using gelatin.

We saw the apartment. It is really nice, with a dish washer and washer and dryer. Wow it will be awesome to have such new fangled modern applianes. It cost $250 more a month, which is what we would expect. It should take 45 min off dh's commute, each way. We currently live near a marsh were we can see the sun rise in the morning. Also, there is a shared yard space where all the kids in the area play. I am missing it all ready. Where we are moving has a very large homeschooling community. It is a great plus. I am sad a possibly leaving, plus we promised ourselves that the next move would be in our own purchased home and that is not happening yet. So many mixed emotions and if it all works out we have four weeks to pack, plus I am about to receive a waldorf doll making kit to be finished by my oldest son's 6 year old birthday. Wow. I will be busy.

I'm sorry it's not a place you will own, but it sounds really nice! I know it's hard to give up the neighborhood kids though... We had to do the same when we moved into this house.

I'm with a mw, but she doesn't do hbs, so I'll be delivering in the hospital (the mw is biased about hbs too... but not a big deal since I don't think DH would agree to a hb anyway). I plan to... go into labor, avoid the hospital as long as I can and then go have a baby. Heh. We're still not sure what to do with the kids. My SMIL wants to take them but she *really* doesn't get the dietary restrictions... and I'm concerned that, if she needs to have them overnight, DS2 doesn't know her well enough.
I let DH choose whether to find out this time. He chose to find out. They're telling us it's a boy. I have 2 nieces who were "boys" at their ultrasounds, so you don't have to guess too hard how much I believe them. My philosophy is: It's a baby. When it comes out, we'll know what gender it is.
I'm not certain exactly what you want to know about.. Spirit quests?

Brand? We can do pork. It's a mild reaction so still on rotation but I could give it a try.

This is zinc deficiency! This is exactly how you test it. Keep giving them (or another form of zinc) until the lozenges taste bad/metallic. You don't have a zinc deficiency

Well. I'm hesitant to say it, but... we're at baseline : First time since... November? AND we're doing with WITH soy lecithin. I decided after all this talk to go back on the multivit. that have worked for me for years - the only ones that ever seemed to make me actually feel better and as if they were worth taking, plus I'm eating my green smoothies and Fish Oil, and poof!

No, I was wanting to try it directly for her. I have been having it for weeks without a problem, so thought that she might be fine. We are eating heaps of butter (Tillamook, so not even goat) without a problem. So, that is why I was wondering if she was reacting to me taking the liquid kelp.
