9 month old and ECC

My baby is showing some signs of decay and/or weak enamel in his top lateral incisors. His is breastfed on demand, nurses to sleep and cosleeps with me at night. It made me sick when I noticed it because no matter how you dice it (caused by bf, caused by prenatal nutrition, caused by saliva-to-saliva contact) it's pretty much my fault.

I have MI Paste, some SPRY xylitol and some paint on fluoride that the dentist gave us for DS3. His tooth paste has xylitol in it and I also have some vit D drops. PLEASE help me come up with a plan to reverse this or at least stop it. I've called our pedi dentist, but I won't hear from them until Monday.

My now 3yr old had to be sedated and get crowns on his 4 top front teeth when he was 13 months old and I would really like avoid having to do that again.

I'm working on getting him to fall asleep without nursing (or brushing his teeth after he nurse), I think I'm going to have to night wean him because DH is pretty convinced that it's the night nursing that is causing it.

My plan is something like this:

Morning - Brush, xylitol
Before Nap - Apply MI Paste
After Eating - Brush, xylitol
Before Bed - Brush, MI Paste

Any revisions to that? Is there any supplements that I can take to make my milk more beneficial to him?

Thanks so much for any advice. This sucks!

A few quick things--squirmy baby on lap. Don't feel bad, you are doing your best! After eating wait 20 min before brushing--ok to do xylitol right after though. You want enamel not to be soft when you brush. Check out the curing cavities through nutrition thread for more ideas.

More...check out the Zellies link for some ideas: http://cleanwhiteteeth.com/cwt-system.htm

Also here's the nutrition link: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=399989 and Ramiel Nagel has a good site: http://www.yourreturn.org/Articles/E...ries_Cured.htm

There's another good thread http://www.mothering.com/discussions...147&highlight=

Do you do the high vitamin butter oil and cod liver oil? That was the "magic" combo that Dr. Price used to combat cavities...nutrition in general as well but he makes specific mention of those two in his book.

We're doing a traditional foods type of diet here. We brush twice a day with Spry gel (first thing in the morning so it gets done and teeth are not soft) and at night right before bed. For my older daughter (almost age 5) we also do ACT rinse at night. My younger daughter (age 3) had white spots on her front teeth that have completely remineralized (shiny white teeth although some small black stains, not on those front teeth though). Not sure if it was from a better brushing routine, nutrition taking hold or what. She night nurses a LOT. My older daughter has had some remineralising and has shiny teeth but still a few cavities...we are thinking of doing Healozone but the drive is 3.5 hours, she won't go alone with dh, we've been having some modest success and my youngest is 6 months old so the car trip will be a big deal.

Will he let you put Spry gel or xylitol spray on his teeth after night nursing? 9 months old seems very young to me to night-wean. I'd say better to improve your diet, your own dental health, etc. I'm not in your shoes though so hard to say...this is all very difficult to deal with.

Hang in there, read lots, hang out on the Traditional Foods forum and here.
