I read somewhere that if the wool is 'thin' then I would double it? So how do I know? I have some fine merino wool I got from the thrift that looks thin, it is thinner than about 3 of the other types of wool I got. Would I thin wool cover work, or would I need to double it?

That might have been me making the comment about thin wool....lol...
anyhow, it's really a judgement call, but for me, if it's like the thickness of a normal sock or a lightweight sweater, I would probably use 2 layers. Or like a wool shirt, 2 layers. Some sweaters, once you felt them up, would clearly be too bulky for 2 layers. But I'd rather err on the side of a little too thick than too thin, myself.
I just ordered some wool interlock fabric to try, and I'll use 2 layers for that.
I know that's not really specific, but I hope it helps some!

Thanks, I just felted some. And then I soaked a prefold in water folded it up and put it in the sweaters I plan to use to get a judgement. I have about 3/4 sweaters I will be doubling the rest I would just leave, if it needs a next layer I will use the scraps from the thin wool sweaters to line inside of the others.
thanks
thanks

I have this wool jacket I've been eyeing. It has holes along the cuffs so it's not really suitable for donation and I want to do SOMETHING with it. Is this type of wool suitable for a cover? Also, it's black so I'm not sure how colorfast it would be with being peed on. I guess I can use it for quilting if not for diapering.

I have used suiting wool before and i worked well. I did 2 layers. i also got some wool jersey in black and did two layers, and it did bleed slightly onto my pf's when super soaked (overnight), but it washed out. No biggie. It could probably work...
DexMillie - I have a couple bum sweaters i did that was only one layer, then I added a second layer (zigzaged it on) just in the pee zone, sort of hour glass shaped. So that's an option.
