confused with some measurements

I just went to too sites and one newborn size is about the same size as the other premie size:

on this site http://www.fireflydiapers.com/diaper...g.htm#easywool under Firefly Easy Wool Covers

Extra Small(premie)
9-13" waist

7-9" thighs

11-12" rise

but on this site http://www.freewebs.com/kflorea/All%...20Patterns.pdf (this is the pattern I downloaded)

The newborn is

11.5-13" waist

5-7" thighs

13" rise

Should I be using a small pattern instead? Or just do a few newborn patterns and when the baby come just make the rest covers?

I'm not surprised - will vary based on pattern...but if I were you I would make a couple nb and a few small. Since with wool, you're actually absorbing the fluid rather than blocking it's escape, I think the sizes are a littl emore forgiving. If it's a little big (not toooo big), you can probably get away with using it anyway.

Knitting takes me too long and I'm too impatient so I'm more one to buy wool fabric and sew instead... so I can't tell you from experience. I'm just making an educated guess!

If the baby is in hand than just measure over the diaper for a cover pattern size. Depending upon how big the baby is will depend upon how many you need of each size. If you are using wool it's great to make soaker sacks because then it will cover a greater size range and you don't have to worry that it won't fit.

I have found the following measurements to be more usefull for a 7-9lb newborn especially if you want to use them for 6 weeks.
Waist- add longer wings that cross over a bit.
Waist- 12-16"
Rise- 12-14 Front can fold down for umbillical or snap down.
Thigh- 5-8"

Acutally this is what I am doing. I have some thrift store wool that I felted and am ready to make some covers. I think I might just do about 3 different types of wool covers and 2 smalls for now. When the baby is here I can always wipe up a few more since I will have the experience they don't seem to hard to do. I just practice on a cotton shirt and it seemed simple hope it is simple to sew the wool too.

what are soaker sacks? Are they the same as the bum sweater pattern? I do plan on making a bum sweater diaper cover, a wrap and katrina quick soaker patern to try out on different types.
