"We should get one of those for the dog." - Page 2

Oh, and of course "doesn't your back hurt?"
Ha ha. I work with adults who have developmental disorders and our center has a craft shop that teaches the individuals to sew various items. About a yera ago I suggested they make some simple baby slings. I brought mine in to show them and got them a couple of patterns. The only one they ever made was literally for someone's dog!

I suppose the weirdest comment I got was when somebody was complimenting my Maya Wrap for my oldest baby. She said "Oh look! its got a pocket to keep bottles in too!"

I was a bit taken aback and said "Yeah, I guess you could do that, I've never given her a bottle"

When DS out grew his sling we kept it for our dog. shrug the dog loves it
She also rides in the diaper bag

Actually I have to admit slinging one of the cats...

She is a very needy one.
Last time I can remember is when we came back from vacation and she would not let us unpack. So I stuck her in the sling and she stayed happily there for at least two hours while I was doing my stuff...

I love the funny comments! I've thought about wearing my dog, I think she'd like it!

Someone this morning at church said to me, "Oh, you don't have her all wrapped up today." I get the worst comments at church, actually, and TRY (with varying degrees of success) not to let it bug me. I said something like, "yeah, once in awhile I let her out." I couldn't help it.

One of my church friends saw me wearing dd at the grocery store, and told me I'd need a blanket for her when I send her to kindergarten. She said it with love, though, and it was funny. (I've shared this before here.)

The most annoying comment to me is how I should have her facing forward. I finally mentioned to someone that when you CARRY a baby in your arms, you don't have them facing completely forward! That got a good laugh.

I got the one about her being cold a lot when she was little, too. Very annoying. Someone was telling a group of people how my baby was BLUE the last time she saw me with her. I guess she's never heard of body heat!

I think the ones where people think someone is carrying a doll is hilarious! Especially a man carrying a doll in a sling!

I have to admit, i wore our new puppy in a pouch the other day to pick up my dd from her preschool.....DD was not very happy about it! LOL!

Yeah i got that the other day. Some lady was like "oh my gosh! Her back has to hurt so badly!"

UGH!

Haha, I tried carrying our cat in a sling once, but she wasn't too fond of it!

The stupidest comment I've heard was this.
I was in a queue in a shop and two old ladies were in front of me. They saw dd in the carrier and went "oh, what a sweet baby" so I smiled but then one of them started going on about how it's much better to have baby in a pram with a bunch of blankets over it because that way they can be warm enough.
Ok it was a very cold, freezing day, but I'm 100% sure dd was warm enough! Hello, she probably wouldn't have been sleeping peacefully up against my chest otherwise
I said to the lady that I was sure she was fine, snuggled up against me, and the lady said: "oh, but that's like sitting in front of a fireplace: your front is hot but your back is absolutely freezing!!"
?! um ok. Usually when I sit in front of a fireplace, I'm nice and toasty all over. But I guess that's just me.

Oh and I have (had, she's grown out if it, boohoo) this cute little bear outfit for dd which was perfect for the cold winter we had (pic), and more than once, someone said "oh, it's a baby!! I thought you really had a little bear in there!!"
Hello, who in their right mind would walk around with a LIVE BEAR strapped against their body

Seriously?? What if you said no~would they go out and buy one for you? And obviously they haven't priced quality baby carriers lately. You can get a cheap umbrella stroller for less money than a good carrier.

Friend's Mom

I have a friend whose mom offered to buy her a double stroller. Once the stroller was picked out and paid for the mom asked my friend if she would, "stop using that poverty stricken jungle wrap," (known to most MDCers as a ring sling).

DS is very possessive of his pouch too - I was shwoing a friend how to use a Hotsling with her baby and he was MAD! He was not at all impressed that I was putting another baby in his "UP" and walking around with them - he eyed that baby suspiciously the whole visit from his hip perch .

kinda off topic..

question about the animal carriers... I'm all about the animals, but animals in a carrier? what for? I carried my son almost 24/7, well at least when we were awake, until he learned to crawl and wanted almost nothing to do with it, although we do use it occasionally now. We have two cats, but i dont see the point or the need for the carriers, or the dog strollers. I mean I guess if you had an older animal that had physical problems and couldnt get around on their own, but other than that, isnt part of having a healthy animal making sure they get enough exercise and walks and everything? How is a dog getting enough "walk" time if he is in a carrier or stroller? I'm so not trying to offend or make anyone upset, I just honestly dont understand. I know its way off topic too so I apoligize for that.

A little girl at the grocery store asked me why I had my baby in my shirt when I was wearing her in the Moby. It was cute!

I've actually had several people say something about the Moby being a shirt - I've explained it's actually a wrap, but got some blank stares.

I've put my dog into both a wrap (FWCC) and my RS. She wasn't as happy with it as I would have thought (she LOOVES to be held, so I thought she'd be thrilled to be in the baby carrier). So I didn't keep her in it long, but DH took some photos & we laughed.

ETA:
Comments I hear:
"Wow, best seat in the house!"
"Aww, he looks so comfy!"

But in the RS in a hip carry, I usually keep his whole body inside. Otherwise he tries to reach for things & lean over -- then it feels like he's going ot fall out & it's uncomfortable.
A cashier at the grocery store said, "Woa, it looks weird, like a little floating head there!"
