Front Carries and Spinal Development

Do the same spinal development problems that the Baby Bjorn poses also affect other front carriers? I tried my 8 week old in the moby facing forward today and he loved it, but I don't want to keep doing it if it will hurt him.

If there are any other carriers that are better than the Moby for this, please let me know that too. Thanks!

Someone once posted a link to an article about this. I think the problem with the bjorn is that the baby's legs hang straight down and the spine is straight, rather than curved. I don't know if you can front carry with your LO's legs in the froggie position (I've not tried that myself). Seems to me I heard it is possible. Once dd was old enough I just put her in a high back carry. She loves that. She can see over my shoulder and is quite happy.

I've wondered this myself recently. You can quite easily tuck your little's legs up into that froggy position in a front carry in the moby. You can tuck the legs up in the crossed over parts, or just sort of scoop them up into the logo piece you pull up over everything.
I tend to make a point of putting dd's feet either tucked in, or on my working surface (the counter while I'm doing the dishes, or whatever) so that she can stand and transfer the weight to her feet periodically. I don't know if this actually helps the situation, but it makes me feel better about it.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone have a link to that article about the baby bjorn??

I will definitely try to tuck his legs up in front today. Since he is so small, I'm still able to spread the fabric under his bum so that it makes his legs stick out in front and his knees bend like he is in the sitting position. I feel pretty comfortable with that at the moment, but I doubt it will last too long.

Is there a way to do that high back carry with the moby, and is 8 weeks too young? Thanks!
