Non-Vaxing and Florida Medicaid

Hello there,
I'm having an issue. My son has only had very minimal vaccines, he's about to turn three. I am pregnant, and unfortunately do not have health insurance so i am trying to get Medicaid. They say they need a copy of his immunization record. What do I do? I don't want to have to vaccinate him more. Does anyone have any info on this matter?

Thanks!

You are religiously opposed to the practice of vaccination and no, you will not discuss your religious beliefs with them.

I would be prepared to hand them a letter in lieu of vaccine records.

We were on FL medicaid for a while for both of our unvaxed daughters. It was never an issue and I still haven't had to go out and procure some official exemption (which I've heard is horrible in Florida). Did they assign you a caseworker? I'd start out by returning the paperwork through that person and if they ask, simply stating that he is unvaxed or that you are religiously opposed and go from there.

Hi mama- you do not need to be "up to date" on vaccines to receive Medicaid. I would just write religiously opposed and that should do it.

This site has all of the FL statutes that you can print and bring with you if you need.

good luck

I live in TN, but my daughter is on medicare and I know it ran out after the first year from when she is born, well we wanted to see if we still qualified for her to continue getting it and in order to do that we had to fill out the same thing all over again. They asked me for her immunization record, which she doesn't have one b/c she do not vaccinate her. I told her this and she told me I would just need to get maybe some doctor records just showing her date of birth, so I just had the doctors office that she went to at her 2 week check up fax her records up there and I never heard anything else, and she is still on medicare. Maybe you could ask them what is another source of proof you could show instead of the immunizations. I think they just use this type of proof because they assume most everyone would have this. I know in TN I don't think they wanted the immunization chart to check up on what she had had, they were just wanting some type of proof that she is who I say she is basically.

You do NOT need vax records for medicaid only for cash assistance. See page 5: http://www.dcf.state.fl.us/ess/fammedfactsheet.pdf
