Just need to vent!!!

Thread Starter
I been babywearing for almost 4 years, but one more time people look a me like I have three heads, four legs and couple wings:. Today I was buy at the Whole Foods Market wearing my 6 mo. DS in the BabyHawk in my back. An old lady came to made to tell me that DS looks bad in the carrier. I reply that He was just fine, that I know He looks like his head in bending, but He was confortable and I was sure if I try to move him, he going to wake up and cry.
When I met my husband who was in the next aisle, I ask him if DS looks fine.
I re-tied him and continued to shopping, two minutes later came another guy, He said..Oh.. gosh...you boy looks funny in there!....

Usually I'm fine that people look up us and think we are crazy, but today I was mad. Nobody says nothing if baby spend hours and hours in the car seat bucked, when you babywearing, breastfeeding,etc... is everybody's business...

Thanks for hear me..

Totally know what you mean. I had an older lady (probably in her 70's or 80's) make a comment to me about DD in her ring sling once. I just smiled and said "ah" and then she followed up with "I guess the last thing you want to hear is my opinion." Again, I just smiled, but I felt like saying "yeah, you're right."

Hello,

Just a common theme I guess, but I am always amazed to hear the weird comments people get about things like this - babywearing, breastfeeding, etc. I don't have any kids yet and I haven't given much thought as to how I will transport a baby when I have one someday. But yeah, I see lots of carseats and strollers, as well as baby slings and the baby bjorn-type things. It doesn't bother me and I don't assume the baby is in any trouble. Don't know why people would think that.

On a slightly different note, there are people out there who are as of yet childless, who ask the questions just because they're curious and don't know anything about what they're seeing. I've seen the slings before and I'm used to them, but I can see someone asking "where did you get that", or "did you invent that yourself?" just because they don't know anyone with kids and have never seen it before. Before I met people my age with babies, I had never heard about co-sleeping, extended breastfeeding, or drug-free childbirth. I was 26 and had no thoughts of children at the time. I just didn't know. But the fact that I had never heard of those things also gave the people who taught me about them a great opportunity to reach me without me having any preconceived notions.

I did recently ask a friend, watching her cook stir fry with a baby in a sling, how do you move around and do all that with your baby? She just said, how else would I do it? Funny, I didn't think at the time to just say, you could put him in his highchair, lol. But that's neither here nor there ... the real lesson learned in that case is that having a baby in and of itself is a learning experience. Right now I can't imagine being able to move around my kitchen with a baby on me ... but that's because I've never tried it, KWIM?

Hope this wasn't too random and off topic. I love reading these threads.

true indeed that once baby is upon us, your perspective changes.
before children, I assumed all babies sat contently in a stroller for hours on end. and if i need to get things done around the house, baby would simply occupy himself / herself with mess-free toys on a high chair.

sorry for the op's experiences. that's not fun when you have to justify your parenting intuitions.

here's one my funny ones:
because i'm Chinese (but my dc look nothing like me, for some reason), i occasionally get mistaken for their nanny, probably more so due to my frumpy appearance on one of them coffee-deprived days (all too many, actually) when I didn't bother to put on make-up or get out of my sweats. Anyway, this old couple played with my ds, buckeld to my back, at the c/o counter and commented "he's so adorable! how old is he?" in voices about 10 times louder than normal and 20 times slower than necessary.

I answered, "no English"

I get a lot of comments about my sling, so many people say "Oh! I wish they had things like that when my kids were little!"...yet slings are as old as sin

Littlegreymare...I came over here to post JUST that. I seriously wanted to fall over laughing when an older know it all granny said that to me the other day. And I was wearing a very basic, WAHM ring sling. Um....they've had these since the beginning of time!

One of my friends asked me recently if my baby was getting "too heavy" to carry like that. Wha??? She's 7 weeks old and I have a 2.5 and 4 year old also that like to go to the park. I sure hope not!
