HI

Anyone with expereince of clinical depressed -- CONTROLLED -- and home studies for IA? I have been treated for over 10 years and am doing great; but i was hospitalized by well meaning freinds once -- and I stil seeth with anger that THAT may come back to haunt me; though my therpist now says he'll fight for me.

Are some contries "more acceptiong". Some agencies more "acceting"?

Advice regarding homestudies?

Yes, some countries will be more accepting, and some agencies will be more accepting, and some social workers will be more accepting. People with controlled depression do adopt.

You would be wise to find other people with depression who have successfully and recently adopted from the country you are interested in. Find out what agency they used. Talk to the agency and be honest about your situation and see how they respond. Try to find IA parents in your area with depression to find a good homestudy provider and again be honest up front. There are plenty of agencies out there that can work with you (for most countries, that is), so don't be afraid to shop around.

As far as country requirements, I think I saw on another post that you are interested in Eastern European countries? It can vary quite a bit within Russia, because the adoption will be up to the judge in the region. Some are more accepting that others, so a good agency should be able to steer you to the right regions.

If you aren't honest up front and it comes out during the homestudy, not only will it look bad for you, but you also may lose a lot of money and time.

There are yahoo groups for adopting from just about every country and they can be a tremendous source of information. I don't know how people managed to do IA before the internet!
