No, we don't celebrate St. Patricks Day. Its sad that so many people celebrate for the sake of celebrating, never really enquiring what exactly they are celebrating.

I am in full zombie mode. My son was unsettled all night, and my husband was snoring loudly. Between the two I didn't sleep at all.

Lucien is teething! He's almost 16 weeks already! Can you believe it??

Its GORGEOUS and windy as heck over here today! By 7 am it was already 11 degrees outside. The sun is shining brightly and the wind is blowin hard. We have gusts (which in the fraser valley really just means WIND) at 70 km/hr. I love it!!!!!

but... the blowing wishes into eggs stuck in my head, and i was trying to remember what i'd seen about similar things that i'd thought some of you would like (without suggesting camp, lol), so i just had to go find it.... here. it lists all sorts of similar ideas! i *thought* one of them had been to "blow" wishes into the eggs, but i didnt see it on this page, just about writing them in runes... (here's one that mentions planting them, which is fun too!)... OH-- and, heh... for anyone else anxious to be celebrating spring, lol... i read one that said they could be done as much as a month ahead of time (that was i think esp in reference to one that said to do raw eggs, unblown.... anyone ever done that?), so... maybe my egg decorating itch doesnt have to wait to get scratched!

Hi All.

We used to celebrate St. Patty's day as kids by waking up to the milk turned green. Oh and pinching people who didn't wear green on the day. That was about it. I think one year when I was a teen my Mom made corned beef and cabbage at my Aunt's request. Nothing too exciting now because DH is usually gone on that day.

I have been pretty cranky these past few days and I am trying really hard to get outta the funk. I am just waiting for my breakfst to settle before I start my first workout of the day. Then, its a day of school work and laundry.

i think you should always answer "I don't know", then he can show up at random times-- like a couple times in a day, or not for two weeks, or...you know, just random. Unless you tire of it, then you can just say "well, maybe it was just a one-time thing, who knows?" and leave it open-ended

we do, too! : i put off my root canal once again because the driving is sketchy. we both have the day off of school. we got like 5 or 6 inches!!! it's a winter wonderland out there. a fairyland! it's so beautiful. ds and i went out at like 8 this morning : and i took pictures and we even got icicles! and he threw snowballs and we made snow cream-- twice, until i ran out of maple syrup. it's blazing sunny out there right now, though only 25*. it's supposed to be sunny for the rest of the week, with two more days of cold and then back into the 50s and 60s by the weekend. i feel that this is Nature's last blast for us before Ostara. but yay, it's so fun!

back in the day, when i was drunk every night and behaving insanely, i used to know a guy who could call owls. a bunch of us were hanging out (at night, of course) at this little covered bridge in the woods. he squatted down and said "listen". we all got really quiet, and he started gently hooting. soon one hooted back, and then he hooted, and the owl got closer and closer, you could tell by the hoots. i guess it thought he was another owl. it was really cool! the guy's name was Wade and he would only do it once in awhile. but for us being crazy-ass drunks that was a really strange (but impressive) thing to do. i've always remembered it.

Funny you should mention that Maia!

Last Ostara we had the pool open! It was gorgeous and warm enough to be wet and running around in a bathing suit!
Last week we got over a foot of snow so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Ostara this year!

The snow removal people STILL haven't shown up (it's almost 3:30 here). I'm beyond pissed. I've already called to complain and the answering service woman was SO rude. I'm guessing she didn't pass along my info to maintenance.

Thanks for the sympathy on the back pain. I've been in bed all day (well, as much as one can be with a 3 & 4 yo). Peacelove, sorry you're going through it too. I just watched The Visitor and liked it if someone's looking for a good new release. If you have Netflix, it's on the watch instantly browser.

It usually doesn't snow where I'm at, but we get a lot of rain. It generally feels pretty springy by Ostara, so I don't have any tips on the wintery Ostara issue.

I've been loving the celebration ideas. Thanks to everyone for sharing. This is only my 2nd practicing rotation of the wheel, so I'm still gathering information.

Aweynsayl- I'm interested in the stone exchange. It'll be a great excuse for some hiking...or very slow meandering if this back doesn't heal quickly.

This seems to have been a bad couple of months for back problems. People who have never had issues before (including me) are throwing their back out somehow.
Very odd.

So, you know what I got done today? Absolutely nothing. Well, I will be sorting through the fabulous book order that just came in but I didn't get any cleaning done.
It's been rather hectic with ds at home today.

I'm just taking a few minutes rest while I drink some cocoa and then I'll clean the bathroom and then do the dishes.
Perhaps if I make myself think that I'm doing something spiritual, it will help the process.

No, thankfully I do not normally have back pain. I just tweaked it really bad when I was giving the kiddos a bath. I was dressed up ready to go out, and I didn't want to get wet. I was standing up all wonky and leaning over to wash dd's hair. When I straightened up, it was all over. What's frustrating is that I've been working very hard at getting in shape. I was even planning to be in a race this Sunday. I don't think it's going to happen now. Bummer. I know I'll heal up soon enough. Thanks for the sympathy.

BTW, it's amazing what I'll let my kids get away with when I don't want to get up.

Speaking of Celtic stuff.. we're going to a Celtic heritage festival this weekend : Should be great fun!

Well it IS kinda the thing to do at this time of year I've discovered (well it shoul dhave been obvious, but I never thoguht about it) a big problem with egg DYING here.. our eggs are quite brown lol. So I think the wooden or paper machier will definitely be th go.. especially if I plan to hide them outside in this HEAT lol.

ain't THAT the truth!?! There have been mornings where I either woke up with migraines or when Quinn was up a LOT during the night, and I just don't/can't get up... and omg cookies for breakfast, burnt toast in the toaster lmao, ink pen on the white board, you name it they get into it!

Brown eggs- yeah... small problem there! Though you could still do a sort of panasky look I suppose.

I need to save up money for a chiro *waves fist at Tricare for not covering it for families* It does not hurt during my workouts, it tends to start once I have been sitting down for awhile. I move, it will crack, etc. I sent DH the last of my Biofreeze for his shoulder and all I have is arnica gel. Its kinda working though.

It was a lovely sunny day here. I had all the blinds open and was day dreaming about my garden

LOL @ mostly quiet. I'm thinking of dragging out my acrylics and painting fake eggies, that way I can reuse them and not have to worry about the crunch factor hehe

Tricare does suck sometimes, but since they are paying all Jon's bills, I can't say anything ... I'm guessing his bills are gonna top out half a mill. 5 weeks in SICU, 4 weeks in specialty rehab hospital.. oh yeah don't forget 2 emergency surgeries, one lasting 8HOURS : SO as long as they keep 'writing checks' they are my very best friends lol.

This was probably in one of the egg links But what about blowing out some of your plain jane brown eggs and filling them with wax? I saw a basic version of this on Martha Stewart (she just broke the tops off the shells and used some shells as planters and some as mini candles)... but if you broke the top off for a bit more space you could put leaves/flowers/glitter/etc into the shell, then fill with colored wax. Once the whole thing set you could break off the shell and have something that looked (at first glance) like the cool flower/leaf print eggies.

But that's a hey-ho amount of work!

I haven't read the whole thread yet, but to answer the first question: Yes, there's a lot of Irish in my family and no, we don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day. It seems silly to celebrate an event that commemorates driving the pagans out of Ireland, given that I'm pagan. I could draw the obvious comparison, but that would be a little crass, given that I wasn't directly touched by the events surrounding "St." Patrick.

We had lovely 55-degree weather a couple days ago, and now we're buried under 15 inches of snow. Welcome, March.

I LOVE Tricare for hospital stays and ambulance rides I had a kidney infection and ended up in the ER. Luckily no ambulance ride but, oh boy. I got a shot of antibiotics in my bum basically and that is not cheap.

Today ended up being a pretty lovely day. I got some stuff done, even though I do not feel like it at all. I just finished eating honey baked lentils and steamed broccoli for dinner. Now its time to veg out. *yawn*

well, it doesn't usually snow here, either, especially now. and we're still in drought it generally feels pretty springy by Ostara here, too. i just was curious about mamas who lived in wintery areas!

I, who usually am lazy as all get-out, actually decluttered some, today!! : i cleaned off all the crap on the front and side of the fridge (i mean the things stuck to it with magnets), washed it down with a sponge, cleaned off the top of it, and i cleaned out the freezer-- well, i had to do that. i made veggie broth the other day, and when i went to freeze it, one of the baggies had a leak : and it got *all over* the bottom of the freezer. and everything there got stuck in it. ew. so i got that all cleaned out, and decluttered in there while i was at it, and cleaned out the icky space in the seal around the freezer and fridge both. yay me!

i find that if i berate myself all day for not doing stuff, i go to bed feeling bad-- but if i resign myself and accept that i'm not doing anything, i feel a lot happier about just being slack not that i do that all the time, mind you

actually, brown eggs dye rather nicely. at least i think so. i almost always use brown eggs. that is what i use regularly to eat, and one year i didn't think to get white ones, so i dyed the ones i had. and they came out so deep and pretty! why don't you do a test run to see if you like them?
