Help! Pattern alters and Big Butts!

I like to make my kids clothes, its fun and they get original things. (and it keeps my mind challenged, lol) But I'm having a problem with pants for my 16yr old dd and 13 yr old ds. They've both got some serious booty! His is big and round and high, I can not find pants to fit him, (another reason I try and make them) and hers is almost the same, (not quite as high up tho).

The issue is that they're both petite. So, if I go up in sizes, they drowning in their clothes (except for the buttocks).

So, how do I alter an otherwise well fitting pattern to add more butt area? (I'm not a beginner sewer, but I wouldnt say experienced either)

TIA!!!

SLice the back leg pattern lengthwise and spread it at the top an inch or 2 to add booty room. Then add some to the top of that pattern (making the back higher than the front), you might also need to add a bit to the sides of the front, depending on how far around you need the extra room. Finally, add darts or gathering to the new section to bring it back in at the waist. LMK if you can visualize that, I can try to make a picture if you need it

Oh, and you can alter ready-made clothes if you find ones with enough room for the bum. Just trim some off the top in front to make it fit better around the belly and reshape the legs (length and width, tapering up to the thighs)

I *think* I can visualize what you're saying. I've got a pair jammy bottoms to make so I'll give that a shot.
Thank You!!
