Which Dyson model?

I am so sick of my awful (and not cheap!) vacuum that randomly turns off when it pleases and leaves all kinds of dog hair behind. I am going to take the plunge and splurge on a Dyson. I know I want the animal since it will be picking up a lot of dog hair, but I'm not sure if I should go with the DC17 Animal or DC25 Animal. The DC25 is the newer one with the ball, but does anyone have any feedback or reviews about which one is better? Also, any good deals on Dysons anywhere right now?

Target has a sale right now. I think it picks up great, but mine is starting to fall apart after only 5 years. I bought mine at Costco, so not sure which model, an animal one though. I did buy the slim ball one, but it was too slim and hard to use. I would get the older version, tried and true.

I am curious about Oreck .....

I have the purple one - whichever "animal" that is. We got it as a Christmas gift about 2 1/2 years ago. My MIL purchased it at Linens N Things and used a 20% off coupon. But Bed Bath and Beyond sends out the 20% off coups as well and yes, I would check out Target, too.
