March Dingos - In Like a Lion!! (The Running Thread) - Page 6

I got the bullying email and will read it soon. I have the girls 'resting', papers are going out late, yad, yada, yada, it is a busy day.

I wore my black dansko clogs with a black skirt (no waist with darts to fit, just above knee) stolen from a suit I no longer need (at least not until the dress code in my kitchen changes drammatically) and something labeled tights though not entirely opaque and I was surprised how well the shoes looked with a skirt given that I normally wear them with jeans.

sparkle, I hope you can find a cause and treatment that helps.

back to the daily grind here...

All the SF talk... I wish I could but I'll have to take INDY.

<sigh> seriously, the speedy guy running by my window every day is literally one of the best parts of my day....:

RR: rest day for me as this is a cut back week. I got in a great work out with the 12 second sequence. I am finding that my abs need more resistance than just crunches now that I've been working them for months. Added 15lbs today and still didn't feel it (it was still easy, not challenging). having fun with these new work outs. Arms still strong, doing more than just push ups. I can really see a change in my arms now, which is really exciting.

sorry for the all about me, just trying to catch up at home and spend more kid time (and I've gotten hooked on a FB game...).

mamajb~hope you don't feel like you are missing out since you are stuck with the INDY crowd.

mommjb...my dansko's go with almost everything! Love those shoes!

real...we have seeds sprouting in the kitchen. Half of the kitchen table is covered with little sprouts pots.

Plady..good vibes for the night weaning. I do remember those days!

Shanti...good to see you!

Paige..I did not run yesterday. I thought about calling you for coffee..but I was feeling so aweful, I decided to take a nap in my car!

Gaye....glad you had fun!

CT...The kids have basketball games on the 28th. But, I have decided that I will sign up for the tri!!! I will be the slowest swimmer, I'm sure!

I did run on Monday and did a spin class today. Tomorrow and Saturday I will run. I will do something on Friday, but not sure what!

Someone called yesterday and said they would come look at my house today. So I cleaned to a polish! They did not come!:
This happened last week as well! urgh!

Mbelle-glad you got a nap! Are you still planning to come zumba with me on Saturday???

real~I really like Born shoes. I've owned 3 or 4 pairs (at least 2 sandals and a pair of boots) and loved them all. Comfortable, yet stylish.

sparkle~ at your beautiful meniscus. Seriously, though, I'm glad that it's not looking surgical after all since I know how worried you were about that. It wouldn't shock me if it was coming from your back. I have a problem in my left foot (mostly numbness when biking/running/skiing in two toes, occasional pain) that I went through the whole nine yards for several years back. My podiatrist did x-rays, MRI, cortisone shot, orthotics, and ended up concluding that he thought it was coming from my back (I had a bulging disc at L4-5 about 8 years ago, mostly but not completely resolved). I hope PT can give you some relief. Heck, maybe my knee issues are partly back related...

It's another 70 and sunny day here in Denver. Super windy, though. I had my track workout this morning and we did a two mile time trial (sure...I miss a month and come back on two mile tt day! ), but I kind of think the times should have an * next to them! It was almost entirely a cross wind, with very brief head/tail wind sections. The good news is that I had a decent time, 18:18. My time last year was 17:57, so I'm not that much slower than I was a year ago. I was completely dead afterwards, though! Holy cow...

I have only skimmed and I know I missed some stuff, but I wanted to give a big *thank you* to my awesome SS - I got a package yesterday and it was such a boost, with such awesome, yummy, cool, useful stuff. : I'm home sick today and have been enjoyng the bath salts as part of my anti-sniffles baths. (Honestly, I've never been this sick with a cold - I'm wiped out.)

Total serial post to say that I submitted a paper proposal to a professional conference about running. If it gets accepted (which it probably won't since they wanted panels, not individual papers, but I'd already written the damn thing, so whatever) I'll need Dingos willing to be interviewed about their running. :

Isn't this whole thing like one lifelong interview? :

Oooo intriguing! Tell us more about your paper! I'd be interested in interviewing, running has just become such an important part of my life, who I am even.

Forgot to mention earlier...I tried DS in the fleece cover last night for the first time and so far so good! : No leaking/wicking, and so far at least no sign of rash, although it definitely took a little time to show up. Thank you, Mel!!

Penelope--sounds like an interesting paper. I just had one accepted but I'm not feeling motivated at all to write it (it's for a little regional conference meeting in Boulder so I don't even get to travel someplace cool).

sparkle--sorry the MRI didn't give you any answers.

Plady--gotcha on the crosstraining. And um, yeah, though in our case chronic sleep deprivation, usually from DD or else from trying to catch up on work puts a damper crosstraining in other areas of the house.

Amazingly, DD agreed to get into the stroller without any bribes this morning so we ran to our local garden center, picked up some seeds and headed home. (In the morning! That in itself is noteworthy.) The wind made it harder and going uphill, I could feel all the weight she's gained in the few months. But, it was better than the treadmill!

Annnnnnnnd the frustration sets in;

The event that started my knee pain: sitting cross-legged, then standing without using my hands for support, which means planting crossed feet, standing and twisting. Did this with 20lb. dd2 in my lap. Sharp pain to my lateral side that gave out. Swelling and pain for 3 days, then pain with use ever after.

Perfect mechanism for meniscus tear - like, text book.

Pain is in the rear of the lateral side, so could be a bakers cyst. But I had an Ultrasound and its not.

Its not ITB pain, b/c its in the back, not along the side.

It hurts to sit cross-legged, or just to cross that ankle over the other knee. It sometimes hurts to drive, an automatic transmission!

Its been months, so any strain should have resolved...

I just dont know. I read around the web last night and nothing really fits

grumble grumble

Plady - I have very fond childhood memories of Baker beach. That would be surreal in a good way, and a good ice bath for the runners

Real - ah, seeds + springtime, I can't wait. : I love buying seeds. What kinds did you get? We gave out packs of sunflower seeds for Val. day and have about 10 packs left over. They are so easy to grow! I'm thinking of just putting them here and there in the flower beds.

MB - at least the house got nice and clean, right? Wow, that's exciting that you will try the Tri with CT! Will that be your first one?

Gaye - you are welcome! I hope it works :

Sparkle - : how frustrating. Will you try the PT again? I hope you get relief!!

Penelope - Are you feeling better today?

Runningmommy - way to go with the abs and arms! You have officially motivated me to get to work on my upper body!!

I'm scheduled for 2 miles today. I missed my weight training yesterday, though, so I might try to get in some pushups etc around here.

Oh, and I was out running errands yesterday and stopped by the bike shop (owned by a nice local couple who are really active in the running/biking scene) to look at a garmin... yes, I bought it. I still haven't fessed up to dh, who would have looked online for days/weeks to get the best deal, but I kind of like to support local people sometimes, you know? Dh is definitely not on board with my *buy local* initiative!

Mel~yay! glad I can motivate!!

RR: ran 5 this morning, but wasn't into it at all. I don't know why as I slept great and had a day off yesterday. I wanted to quit multiple times, and it seemed to drag on forever, but I hung on and completed it all.

NRR: really feeling bad about my parenting skills of my ADHD son. I don't know how to get through to him. It also makes a wall of me feeling close to him. Might call the therapist today for help.

tjsmama, sounds like your running is getting back to where it was :

Penelope, the paper sounds really interesting

Realrellim, glad you got a nice run in outside

sparkletruck, I hear you on the frustration. My knee hasn't been hurting nearly as long as yours but still frustrating. I hope you figure it out soon.

Mel38, yay on the Garmin!

Haven't been around much because I'm depressed about my knee and not being able to run. I got new shoes, tried to run Monday, made it 1 mile before the pain set it and the pain hasn't gone away since. I've been icing, taking ibuprofen and doing exercises and stretching for it. Rode the bike for 40 min yesterday but at a really easy level.
