I had my ad campaigns mixed up! I was actually thinking of a print campaign done by the federal Office on Women's Health. There's an article about it here. That campaign was also altered significanly after the formula companies' lobbyists did their work.

I think to start the quickest change.....make it the "cool" thing to do....seriously. Make it trendy to nurse....
That sounds horrible, but I truly believe that if BFing is advertised the right way...there would be a lot more of us BFing full time. Even as adults we cave to peer pressure big time

You know, that's interesting...I think it's getting "trendy" to wear your baby, so more people are doing it. How can we make it trendy? Cooler nursing clothes? I think Motherwear has some nice things already. I'm actually sitting in a dress from them right now that I get all kinds of compliments on!

You all are great! Thanks for a laugh about something that's really been stressing me out.

But, there is a huge truth to that. Our culture is so 'Hollywood-oriented' that it's true. Now if only that will follow throught for Homebirth.

Hmm, but what will the AAP say if breastfeeding becomes 'trendy'? Will they then condemn it like the ACOG jumped on Rikki Lake for making homebirth 'trendy'? (I'm feeling sarcastic tonight.)

I wish it worked that way. I was 23 when my first was born and now with two if I even try to give advice to another Women older than I am currently who is coming into Motherhood for the first time, I get the blank stare and the "what does she know" expression and attitude from them. Not all but most. Modeling easy successful (even though it wasn't always easy or successful) breastfeeding and making yourself available if they need you seems to be more effective for me. Though of all the people IRL I know in the past 5 years who have breastfed past 3 months are two people, one of which says she will not breastfeed again as it interferes with her social life. The other is a member here (I think) too. It gets discouraging.

I get the "social life" thing from girls I know too . I had DD at 21 And was happy to BF but I also very strongly beleive children should be an adults first prioroty . I get upset talking to women whos child spends as much time at "grammys" house so "Mom" can go clubbing and lead a full social life after having a baby so young . Of course you cant BF going out every night , or co sleep after drinking so much . People need to learn more about responsibility before becoming parents.

Baby think it over (TIO) was an awesome tool in my high school. They arent the key in the back ones fro years ago but need diaper changes and warm temps and head sapport. They also come with bottles to feed them on demand . Yet in the catalog they sell these metel clips that attach to your shirt to "breastfeed" the doll . My teacher informed me that the school was not allowed to purchase said iteam becouse it could make students already sensitive about there bodys more self concouse.
