I removed by IUD by myself! - Page 2

i took mine out the other day. no problems at all... and i was TOTALLY tempted to culture it but i just tossed it. i figure i'd see symptoms of bacterial infection if there was one.

Thanks to the encouragement I felt by reading this thread, I removed mine today (Mirena)! I feel overjoyed. Thanks mamas! I was not having *severe* side effects, but they did bother me...PMS syptoms like puffiness, moodiness, cramping. I've also gained belly fat during the 3.5 months I've had it (got at at 6 weeks post part). I always lose body fat and weight during the early months of breastfeeding and I suspect the IUD threw me off. I pulled it out myself with no problem. I have very mild cramping this evening but feel fine.

I took mine out, too. It was super easy and painless.
I'd had it for 3 years and was done with the heavy periods. I would still recommend it, though. Nearly 100% effective birth control you don't have to think about is worth heavier bleeding, in many cases.

I would Looove to remove mine. Mainly because DH and I really want ttc ASAP. But I cannot find the strings at all! My OB won't see me for another month and my GP won't remove it. Ugh!

Does anyone know if I can have it removed at Planned Parenthood?

I would just call and ask them. They might. You might need to mention that you can't find the strings.

Planned Parentwhood will remove them, but not if you are wanting to get pregnant, if you are using their birth control insurance. I was on their family planing insurrance when I got mine out and I wouldnt have qualified to have it removed if I was planning to get pregnant. I told them I was ready to have it out because I was tired of having something foreign in my body and we were going to be using condoms for birth control. I dont know about other forms of payment though.

I took mine out in November to TTC. It was SO easy. DC#2 is due in September and I'll probably get another one. I loved mine - Paraguard. I agree that heavier bleeding is worth it to have such carefree and effective BC.

How in the world could u feel yours? I have tried once before to feel for mine and i cant find it at all. I have had it for about 4 years now and it is time for me to remove it but I have no insurance and there are no "free" clinics around my town. It is causing bad acne and the worst cramps in the world. worse than when I actually had a period....anyone have any suggestions???

I also had an iud go through the wall of my uterus...had to have surgery to remove it.  I had three young children and didn't want more so had tubal ligation done...one year later I had to have a hysterectomy...connected?  I think so....Would NEVER recommend and iud to anyone!!

I just removed my iud out after getting some courage at first it stung a Lil but I think that was because of trying grip my strings after a couple attempts I almost gave up n then as I was trying to get a grip of the strings I slowly pulled n I thought its not going to work then it was in my hand I ddnt feel it come out. I was surprised I thought I would never get it out.

I am so happy I found this thread... I had my iud for 5 years. In that time I didn't have to much trouble, phantom kicks (I thought I was losing it or expecting) weight gain (usual with birth control) and depression. After five years it served it's purpose time for removal... Called to set up an appointment my insurance was not active. greensad.gif Now yes I could wait but that would take months & I already had a worry about what the iud could be doing to my body all these years. I web searched & found this thread not even an hour ago. After your many post I went for it... No luck!!! I asked my husband he laughs but agreed after a couple of beers. I talked him through it 10 minutes later it was over. There was a small burning & some cramping but I have to say it hurt more going in. I'm iud free & happy. Good Luck to those who decide to go for it. wink1.gif

I'm glad I'm not alone with the systoms of my mirena I love not having a period although I do spot every month at any time, but I can't handle the side effects of weight gain acne mood swings and I feel pregnant all the time fatigued tender breast I just feel that I need it out ASAP my doctor wants to try and change my antidepressants first but I didn't do so well with that I've had my mirena for about 15 mnths and I've gained almost 20 Pds since I had it put in and I had maintained my weight after the birth of my son who is now 6 until I received this thing and I'm a pretty healthy eater so I know its not that I'm not eating right!!!! I'm thinking of having it removed or do it myself
