Anyone make their own bubble bath?

I figure it must not be too hard. My dc love bubble baths, but the conventional stuff is full of nasty ingredients. We like the California Baby bubble bath, but it's expensive and we have to use a lot of it to get a good amount of bubbles.

Anyone have a recipe?

I want to know too! My DD is always wanting bubble baths.

I've been looking to do this myself and came across this website:

http://www.pioneerthinking.com/ab_bubblebath.html

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks easy enough! Already have the EO's, just have to order some castille soap and liquid gylcerin.

I have a very easy recipe:

Ingredient:

Approxiomately 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap/detergent

Directions:

1. Add dish soap to bathtub while water is running
2. Soak and enjoy!

Growing up, my mom always used whatever cheap dish detergent we had in the house. With my own kids, I use 7th generation dish liquid (free of synthetic colors, fragrances, etc that I don't want my kids soaking in OR residues of on my dishes!) When my kids were younger and took a lot of bubble baths, I kept a bottle in the bathroom in addition to the bottle next to the kitchen sink.

Cool. Thanks for the link. I wonder why she calls for a *bar* of castille soap. We have liquid Dr. Bronner's, which is castille soap. It seems like you'd have to melt a bar of soap.

We have 7th Generation dish liquid right now, so I'll give it a try!

I wondered that myself! On some of the other bath recipes on that site, the ingredients call for 1 (4oz) bar castille soap (grated or flaked) or 1 cup unscented shampoo. I wonder if you could use 1 cup of liquid castille soap instead?

We tried it last night and it made good bubbles, but unfortunately the second ingredient is sodium laureth sulfate, which I've read is pretty unhealthy. I'm going to give the recipe a try when I can get some glycerin.

I'm going to try it with the liquid soap and I'll let you know how it goes!

I have been doing Dr. Bronner's for bubble baths and washing kids for 10 years now, and I have 2 little girls. I have never had any infections or negative reactions. I use it for their hair and body, too. I have also made the above recipe with glyceryn and EO using eucaliptus(sp, sorry) for colds and flus and it works wonders, so here is a mama who has tried it and loved it! I also make some in pretty jars with different EO's for gifts. HTH!

Does Dr Bronners bubble? Which one do you use? Mine never bubbles? I'll have to try it again. Just ran out so I will buy more tomorrow.

Dh says Dr. Bronner's *alone* won't make bubbles, but I think tatangel19 is talking about using it in the bubble bath recipe.

Anyone know where to buy glycerin?

i found out that 1 bar grated castile soap = 100ml liquid castile soap and you can use equal parts coconut oil as a substitute for glycerin. both of these websites have simple, easy to follow recipes:

bubble bath

I have used peppermint Dr Bronner's as bubble bath and it makes a TON of bubbles. I think the key is making sure you have the faucet on as strong as possible and there is vigorous agitation. We have a garden tub with a pretty powerful faucet and the Dr Bronner's foams up a lot! We have a water softner so maybe in hard water it doesn't foam as much.

I also love Little Twig natural bubble bath. I'm pretty sure it is cheaper than California Baby and it foams really nicely, I was pleasantly surprised.

All the best

Great! I already have more coconut oil than I know what to do with. I'm going to make some bubble bath this weekend. Thanks!

My bubble bath didn't bubble! I used the Dr. Bronners (liquid) and coconut oil and it didn't even come close. What am I doing wrong?

It's used as a laxative for kids, so in the same aisle as all that stuff. It's not that expensive.

I mix glycerin with my shampoo/hand soap (AFM safechoice). The glycerin definitely prolongs the bubble lifespan.
