What is this ??

I have three uncircumcized boys. I have never ran into an issue before now. My 2.8 year old came to me saying it hurt. He pulled back his foreskin, to just behind the head. On the right side where the foreskin is still attached ( right at the edge of the attached and unattached ) is a white ball, no bigger than the head of a pin, perfectly round and very white. The tissue around it is a little red. He had been messing with it, as he is potty training and just found out that he had foreskin LOL. So anyway, is this something to be concerned about, any ideas? Should I see the ped ?

Today it is still the exact same since Friday, but he says it doesn't hurt?

it sounds like a smegma pearl, which is normal.

Thank you for responding. I have been worried all weekend, sort of thought that was what it was. I never had an issue with the older boys ( 19 and 17 ), or maybe they just never showed me LOL

Either smegma pearl or a prepetual cyst either way nothing to worry about it will resolve on its own. More information on both can be found here http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732 it has links to pictures.

:

Also, it is totally normal for one area to remain attached during the separation process. Don't worry this will resolve over time. Separation is different for each boy and smegma pearls, uneven retraction, ballooning, spraying, cysts, slight irritation, slight swelling, discomfort, itching are all normal phases of separation. Remind him to be gentle with himself for now.

Those pictures are a bit disturbing. Those cyst/pearls were huge. DS 1 had a cyst or pearl when he was 5. It was like a pimple and much smaller than shown. He showed it to us and we told him it was fine it would go away but to tell us if it doesn't. It was gone a few days later.

Of course they all come in different sizes and shapes and they all take different amounts of time to resolve. Your son's pearl resolved quite quickly, but some take longer and that is normal too.

I just don't want the OP to think that just b/c it isn't gone in a couple days that it is not normal.

I wish I could find more medical pictures but if they are out there I cant find them. I would like to get more common looking than those 2 extremes. If anyone ever runs across some please PM me the link so I can add it to the thread.
