I've heard that making lip balm with honey in it is really difficult because the honey seperates but, I fiddled around with several and found one that works. Here it is if anyone is interested:
This recipe makes 8 oz or about 32 tubes.
Be sure to measure everything by weight.
2 oz. Beeswax
4 oz. Shea Butter
2 oz. Sweet Almond Oil
1 oz. Honey
Melt the beeswax, shea butter and oil (you can use whatever oil suits you) over very low heat stirring constantly. As soon as everything is melted, take off the heat and wait a minute or so. Add the honey and stir briskly to incorporate. I even used a wisk to get it mixed in. Add your flavor oils. I used vanilla and it turned out heavenly!
The trick to getting the honey to incorporate is to not let the oils get too hot or it will seperate. If your oils are too hot, let it sit a bit before mixing in the honey. Also, using a wisk really helps if you're having a hard time getting the honey to mix in.
This makes a really firm, sightly sweet, slightly shiney, very silky and luscious lip balm. I gave it for gifts last night and everyone raved and raved about the texture and taste.
