New night diaper needed!

We have been using Bum Genius one size diaper stuffed with two newborn inserts which have worked great for the last year. Now, not so much. The BG are definitely showing wear and tear in the elastic and the velco. They are fine during the day but aren't cutting it at night anymore for my heavy wetter- they loosen as DS sleeps and we have leaks most nights now. I don't really want to buy new BGs. We've also tried our Fuzzi Bunz at night with no luck. We only use pockets so I don't have any experience with other kinds of diapers but would be willing to try something new if it keeps him dry!

DS is 21 months, around 30 pounds with chunky thighs and a cute round belly. He's a heavy wetter and sleeps between 11 and 12 hours a night. TIA!

I would recommend prefolds with a wool cover. You would be able to buy 12 prefolds(you could double them if needed) and make a butt sweater. We have a butt sweater from an old, ugly , woolwrich sweater that NEVER leaks. The great thing about prefolds is that you sdjust the fit so chinky thighs are not a problem : You could try a wool cover with your BG if you don't want to spend on the prefolds. DS is a BIG wetter at night and we have never had a leak.

here is the link to a mothering discussion... it was the first thing that came up on google

Hemp works well for us at night, either with a wool or PUL cover. We have sugar peas 2 size fitteds and really like them. I always save them for long car rides or night time!

At night we use mostly prefolds and fleece soakers. Fleece works really well for us at night. If you don't have prefolds or you want a stay-dry inner, you could try Drybees fleece pockets. You can stuff them with any inserts you have.

So if I go the prefolds route, you just put in soakers? How many would you need for a heavy wetter? I know you can't lay microfiber next to skin, but are other fabrics okay?

I am so NOT crafty so I am not sure I can make a wool cover, lol! What is a good brand to buy?

I found a pocket diaper (like fuzzi bunz or Bum Genius) stuffed with one or two prefolds with a wool cover over the top worked well for overnights. Since you already have the BG & FB you could try adding a wool soaker first.

I use two prefolds, snappied on, with a Dancing Bears fleece cover. No leaks even after 12+ hours nursing and sleeping on her side.

I use a BG stuffed with one regular and one newborn insert. Those things are practically dripping in the morning, but DS stays dry.
You could probably even use 2 regular inserts inside.

All the best on your HBAC, Mommy2SammyJoe! Mine was phenomenal and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

I guess part of my issue with the night diaper is the peeing out the sides, which I guess would be a factor of the elastic starting to fail. I will look into the wool soaker idea, however.

Thanks for the input, everyone.

Try a stacinator wool or fleece cover overtop of your BG.

Snap-Ez LW Windpro fleece with two BG inserts or BG regular or BG newborn insert works great for us. My son is almost 18 mo. 28 lbs, drinks 11 oz. of milk before bedtime, 8 oz at night and 8 in the morning, so he pees a lot. Two inserts work and Snap-Ez fleece is very roomy and also breathable, plus it is a pocket so his skin stays fairly dry and cool. Also the Large diapers have I believe 5 snap bottom and top settings. BTW, I was not able to use BG for my son because it was just too small. SEZ has Skinny Large size as well. And her PUL pockets are great, the PUL is really high quality.

I know a lot of people rave about the aristrocrats wool, I have used Babyology and really liked them.

We use the Imse Vimse all in one with a doubler, but a couple people I know just started putting the Knickernappies SuperDo Inserts in their pockets and it has worked awesome for them! One of my friends just tried the Thirsties Pocket AIO w/ that insert overnight and she was SO excited it didn't soak through because her daughter pees like none of her other kids ever had. She had been using sposies at night and soaking through those. We just haven't tried it yet because our system has been good so far.
