hmm. we have well water, and it's pretty mineral-y tasting to me... where did you get your oyster/clam shell?

You could offer them up FFS.
I looked all around locally to find water grains, and turned up nothing! I might not have been looking in the right places, so I finally ordered some.

And - not much help with the recipes from personal experience, sorry. I'm expecting my grains any day now.... But when I get going, I'm going to try some of these (you'll need to scroll down to get to the recipes....)

Actually, I have. I'm sending out three packages today to MDC mamas. And I have three friends IRL to whom I'm also giving grains. I'm making 4L every 2 days. My grain surplus is growing faster than I can literally give them away.

However, per that link you posted, I've been making my kefir "wrong".

The link says 3T per 1L/4C water + 1/4C sugar.

I've been doing 2T of grains per 4C water + 1/4C sugar. I started with 4T grains, 8C water and 1/2 C sugar. Now I'm up to 8T grains per gallon of water + 1 cup sugar. Just thinking aloud here.... When I make the new batch tomorrow, I will use 12T grains to my one gallon water/1C sugar... That's said, my surplus is going to grow even faster now.

You must have some super grains! It's nice to know that even if you don't do things perfectly it may still be just fine. But in the event that I kill my grains, now that I've jinxed myself, I'm going to be looking you up for some of those extraordinary, fool-proof grains you've got going!

And if you try some of those recipes, please post and let us know what you liked.

Well, credit where credit is due, I got them originally from ChangingSeasons. :

It's funny b/c they just weren't growing for so long. I got them in winter (where the outside temps were in the negative 10s). My house was averaging in the mid-60s during the day and lower at night... They were barely hanging on. Now that summer has hit full tilt here, with warm temps at night even, my grains have gotten frisky. They are reproducing fabulously.

Tonight I'm making dosas for dinner. I sauteed some leeks& greens in olive oil with salt & pepper, ginger, nutmeg and oregano. I whirled it in the food processor with some ACV and some more olive oil. I let it cool and added some kefir grains then whirled it some more. It kind of tastes cheesy or at least yogurty or something. It's fabulous. I've got a cucumber salad on the side and dinner will be ready in 5 minutes. :
