The vax is crap, to be sure, but I honestly think that most people don't realize that influenza can sometimes be extremely, etremely dangerous. My son went into heart and respiratory failure and spent 3 1/2 weeks in ICU.
While I understand that many people come through the flu just fine, and I don't advocated the vaccine, it does bother me when people act flippant about the disease.
It especially upsets me when people walk around in public with it and spread it to others because it's not "dangerous".

I am a PICU RN (who also selectively vaxes--we also don't do the flu vax--I work around children with the flu and never get it because I follow precautions to the T) and I have seen my fair share of healthy children die from the flu--children with no underlying issues.
Some kids just get REALLY sick from something as common as the flu or pneumonia, or even a small cut and even though mom washes it off they end up septic, just things that don't seem to make sense. I see some really heartbreaking things everyday....children who are fine one day and dead the next from meningitis, etc. These things happen
way more than people realize.
I see a LOT of kids (infants to teens since that is what we take) who maybe don't die of the flu but are on vents, ECMO, and other means of "life support" because of the flu. Most are healthy kids, some not. Respiratory in kids in nothing to joke around about because for kids resp problems lead to cardiac arrest and it happens *fast*.
