What does your young child use to clean up spills?

A sponge or a towel? Or both?

Where/how do you keep it?

If you chose only a sponge or a towel, are you glad you chose the one you did?

We keep cloth napkins and placemats in a bottom drawer in our kitchen, so our kids can access the napkins to clean up spills as needed. They can also get placemats, on the off chance that they might want to set the table before we eat.

I like having the napkins there and knowing that the kids can get at them. We have tons of napkins and wash them all the time, so it's not a big deal for the kids to use them.

since my boys are all out of diapers we have re-purposed our old cloth prefold diapers into cleaning clothes. They are VERY absorbent and wash up well. I keep them in a bin under my mud sink in the utility area. They know where they are and run to get them if there is a spill....if only the days of "helping mom" can last forever

This looks good for a mop, at least from the description. I wonder if anyone is familiar with it:

I have some of those towels sold on tv - shamwow - I also saw them at Target the other day, I think. I keep them in a low cabinet in the kitchen.

I also like the idea of using cloth diapers for this purpose.

Still, there are occasionally messes that call for a full bath towel LOL. I have a few old ones in a cabinet in the laundry room.

We have a child mop. We got it from Nova Naturals. It is GREAT! I only wish mine was as well made...

But our spills seem to be mostly carpet or table spills.

Diapers! Great idea! . Inspired by that, I just filled half of my son's play kitchen (I know...we bought it before we found Montessori, and he can practice handling "hot" things there). But it's useful for holding our spill towels now

I buy lots of washcloth-sized towels for her to use to wipe spills. The mop she uses but it's a separate activity, like first sweep, then mop the floor....
We also have a sponge and small bucket if the table is sticky.

When DD2 was born, she was in the NICU/PICU for some time and they had the best thin, but absorbent burp cloths. They are about 12x12 and now are perfect for cleaning spills. Unfortunately, DD3 has latched onto them and has turned them into her "lovey".
