sorry for the dumb question but this is my first time on a strict elimination diet: i have been taking a cod liver oil supplement (daily) for years. now that i'm cutting out fish, i'm assuming i should stop taking any fish oils too, right?

Are you doing an ED (elimination diet) just cutting out a few things or a TED (total elimination diet)?
I think I would probably skip the CLO for now and trial it like you would any other food (same with any other supplement too). fwiw, DD has reacted to every fish that I've eaten, but is fine with CLO, even taking it directly. So most likely it won't be a problem for you (or your LO, I'm not sure who you're doing the ED for?) but it would probably be best to stop it for now and then trial it to make sure.

i've eliminated dairy, wheat, eggs, soy, corn & fish (not TED yet, i'm hoping not to have to do it).
yes, my batch contains vit. E but doesn't say if it's soy-derived. (no preservatives, though)
interesting, changingseasons, that your dd didn't react to the CLO (maybe it's fish protein that's allergenic & not the fat?).
i wonder if regular fish oil (not CLO) is OK, too, then.

I actually tried a mixed fish oil first, and she reacted to that. And she's reacted when I've eaten cod. But for some reason the cod liver oil doesn't bother her.
If yours has vitamin E, it's most likely soy derived. Very few use anything else. (I think Dr. Ron's uses a non-soy antioxidant.)
