Is there such a thing for babies?
We will be travelling to the carribean at the end of April and naturally, I need some high SPF sunscreen. Is there anything on the market that is all natural but still effective? Or at least limited in parabens, chemicals etc??

Any suggestions for a good brand over another?

Most natural sunscreens use titanium dioxide or an equivalent mineral physical sunblocker. These are my favorites:

All Terrain Terra Sport SPF 30 - its got good quality ingredients and it comes in a waterproof variety (aquasport)

Active Ingredients: Titanium Dioxide (6.15%), Zinc Oxide (Z-COTE) (3%).

Other Ingredients: Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis) Gel, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Bladderwrack (Fucus Vesiculosus) Extract, Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides, Caprylyl Glycol, Ceteareth-20, Cetyl Alcohol, Citric Acid, Comfrey (Symphytum Officinale) Extract, Cucumber (Cucumis Sativus) Extract, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Grapefruit (Citrus Grandis) Seed Extract, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Lecithin, Phenoxyethanol, Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Sea Kelp (Macrocystis Pyrifera) Extract, Shea (Butyrospermum Parkii) Butter, Silicone, Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Water, Xanthan Gum, Zanthalene.


Aubrey Organics Green Tea SPF 25 - Really fine ingredients (I love this company) but is a bit on the greasy side. Not waterproof. Has PABA and some folks are sensitive

Active Ingredients INCI:
Padimate O (PABA ester) - 8% Sunscreen
Titanium Dioxide - 10% Sunscreen

California Baby worked wonderfully for us. You can use it on babies younger than six months, too.

UV Natural is a brand I've seen recommended and it seems really natural. It uses zinc oxide. Some have said it can be a bit greasy, but I don't know as I haven't tried it. It does contain nut oils if that is important to you.

I've also seen Lavera Sunscreens which I think use zinc and titanium dioxide.

It's not perfect but it gives you a pretty good idea of the "safer" products

Also, you may already have these items, but they make clothing/hats that are sun protective as well so that you can limit sunscreen use.

www.kabanaskincare.com Vey few ingredients and uses only zince rather than titanium dioxide. I LOVE it for myself and kids. It does leave a white coating on your skin, but you can get a skin tinted version if you are concerned about that.

I am going to a bit different and recommend high vitamin cod liver oil.
Everyone in our family that takes it, no longer sunburns.
And that includes 10 days in Hawaii in the middle of an Alaskan winter and never using spf!
