I apologize if this has already been posted, I didn't find anything about it. Also, if this needs to be relocated I apologize for placing it in the wrong spot.

It's about Dr. Paul Offit's book Autism's False Prophets...

I know that the worry isn't just Autism, can anyone give me perspective on this article? I'm just learning about all of this and would love to hear your responses to it since you have way more wisdom than me on the subject.

Thanks!

Anything written By Paul Offit is not worth reading IMO. I believe the man has far too many conflicts of interest to be taken seriously

Ugh! Just do a search on Age of Autism for his name and you'll see all kinds of interesting things.

Ugh, I knew that you guys would have heard of this man. I can't stop feeling like the onion I have started peeling is WAY bigger then I can ever imagine. It's so overwhelming! I need a 'for dummies' version of all of this, LOL!

I’m not sure what kind of perspective you are looking for, but this article is pretty much the vaccine movement's argument in a nutshell. It’s what we hear over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

I’ll boil it down to one long sentence. Vaccines are safe because the research says so, especially when it comes to the ridiculous belief that vaccines cause autism that one crazy doctor promoted, and people need to realize that the internet is the devil, so only the experts really know what is going on, and all those well-meaning, but ignorant, parents need to stop letting Hollywood run their lives.

Well that solves everything, let’s roll up our children’s sleeves.

The biggest problem with all this is that A WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE have now seen vaccine reactions in their healthy children. Offit can blame one crazy doctor, because it is simple to vilify one person, but the truth is Wakefield was not the cause, he was the result. The cause was thousands of parents watched their beautiful, healthy children get very sick right after the vaccinations and regress developmentally to the point of being just a shell of what they once were. That’s a very horrible thing.

All that money Wakefield has made from getting run out of the country and losing his practice, and the fact that the Royal Free got most of it, is nothing compared to the millions in Offit’s pocket from his vaccine. That whole argument is asinine. Research is always financially supported by someone, and since almost all research is paid for by the pharmaceutical industry should we just throw all research out.

Look at all the research proving Wakefield wrong. What is it, one biological research study that looked at a grand total of 5 children who received the MMR before GI and autism. In 10 years, that’s all they can come up with? Then they throw in a bunch of epidemiological studies that all look ridiculous when you read the information.

Like I said, what Offit can’t get rid of is tens of thousands of stories that are almost exactly the same. All of them. These parents know what they experienced. They see their once healthy children suffer every day. These families have been put through hell. People like Offit are a waste of time.
