Eating Beets turned my urine pink! RENAMED- My computer allergy

I've eaten beets many times in my life but more recently I had some and I hadn't had them in awhile and my pee was pink for the whole next day. This had never happened to me before. I looked into it and it seems a small percebtage of people get this. It's not genetic in my case b/c I never had issues with this before. I also read it can be due to lo iron levels. My iron levels (via blood samples) during pregnancy were always very good.
Obviosly I have leaky gut issues (both dc have various allergy issues). Can anyone point me in a direction to get more info. on this beet thing. Thanks.

I had asparagus recently (haven't had it since last spring/early summer)and usually my pee stinks but this time it didn't. I'm having asparagus again tonight so we'll see. Not sure what that's about.

Thanks for any help!

You haven't been reading the detox stuff in here, huh?
http://eatingcultures.com/tikiwiki-2.2

In short, you likely have low stomach acid. Fermented foods and zinc can probably help out.

Thanks. I've seen a few things but nothing with the whole picture, so to speak, so thought I'd ask where to get more info.
OT FYI-I'm not online much due to a newborn but more importantly this crazy computer allergy (long story). It's hard not using a computer much especially as I'm trying to figure dd's food allergies out but lately I have been some and I've been paying for it (w/ allergy syptoms). A while ago I posted asking about it and no one responded probably b/c no one knows, it's totally strange and I'm not taking medication for it like my allergist suggested.

My question exactly...
I don't remember seeing a post about that.

Not to be snarky, but are you interested for curiousity or because you know about it? Really, being on the computer, to answer questions for curiosity takes me away from looking into things to help dd (who started with her own allergy syptoms her second day of life and much worse than ds's) all while dealing with my own allergy symptoms triggered by computer use.
I hope you can understand and I hope you are going to give me ideas.
I posted awhile back asking for help, oh at least 1 yr or more, I don't remember when but if that's important to you, you could research my posts to see.
I don't know what exactly is the cause, I'm not sure I'll never know for sure but I always dream this will go away.
I haven't kept a log on this computer allergy thing, so from quick memory here's my history:
Allergy symptoms that I noticed started probably over 2.5 yrs ago from when I actually noticed symptoms but didn't put the pieces together that it was my computer triggering them until later. I thought it was other envirnomental allergens bothering me. Although other than the computer, I really haven't been bothered from other environmental allergens recently (last 3 yrs) that I know of. Over the years, I've spent tons of money encasing everything in my house for my dust mite allergens (and I also have leather furniture, wood floors etc.) and follow all the steps for dust mite allerges. I believe I've outgrown my seasonal allergies. I've seen the allergist on and off for years, get updated allergy tests etc. Of all the syptoms I've ever experienced due to environmental allergens, the computer thing is the worse. I've had computers before but never used them tons, just for email and papers in undergrad and grad school '98. My jobs, prior to being SAHM never had me on the computer for long periods of time.
Some symptoms, all in various degrees, I have experienced from use of computer (when all other allergies under control) are: nasal pulyps, bloody nose, bloodshot eyes, aching ears, asthma.
Hot weather seems to make it worse although this winter I've had more symptoms than last winter for who knows for sure. In the past there were periods of time when I wasn't bothered by symptoms but it seems it has gotten worse over time for at least the last year (I really limited computer use in my pregnancy 3/08-12/08). A example of symptoms: right now I feel my inner nose "on fire" so to speak, not intense but uncomfortable. My nose starts to feel raw and more nasal pulyps develop or worsen or my inner nose becomes raw and bloody. Now, I have nasal pulyps from being on the computer more the last several wks.-these pulyps have never completely gone away because I haven't avoided the computer for a long stretch of time (I'm researching dd's allergies and ways to heal).
What I have tried to make syptoms better: wearing allergen face mask, avoiding using the computer from days to weeks, cleaning computer-as in totally taking it apart and cleaning it, moving computer to another room, an extreme cleaning of the computer room -as in taking everything out of house and cleaning all items and cleaning the room from top to bottom and airing it out before bring items back in (items were brought back in the room in stages), getting a new computer, using a very old and also an older monitor. FYI- DH is the one who did all the cleaning so I didn't have to be exposed to a potential allergen (we weren't sure what it was). He first was very skeptical about what I thought (that it was the computer bothering me) but then after all the switching around and then seeing my symptoms bloody nose, bloodshot eyes etc. he believed it.
After lots of brainstorming, my Family Dr. thought maybe one of my allergens was in back of computer (lots of dust mites dander or cockroach parts from manufacturing warehouse---note: various environmental allergens came up on the latest skin prick test so that how I know about the cockroaches-I don't have them in my house). And when computer is on, then the heat aggravates the allergens and then I react with symptoms (dh then took computer out of house, took it apart and cleaned it- he didn't find anything). Allergist had no idea what to do but recomended medication. Chiro. wasn't sure, thought maybe it could be wireless connection, because she's heard of this bothering people, but I don't have a wireless connection. I've went through lots of stages of not using the computer at all for this reason but as you can imagine that's very difficult. Often I use the computer very quickly for email. Lately, I've been on it more trying to research to help figure out things b/c I can't get dd to baseline (food allergies). My nasal symptoms seem to get increasing worse this week from my longer use.
FYI- I haven't noticed any correlation between my allergy symptoms (related to computer use) to my kids food allergies- as in if I'm having allergic responses my breastmilk doesn't seem to be making their symptoms worse from the foods in my milk. I believe all the allergies we suffer from are a result of my leaking gut (caused my YEARS of being Vegan and a few yrs of Vegetarian and the heavy soy consumption as well as other things).
Many of friends and family have offered suggestions etc. My Dad bought me a new computer late summer '08, even though my last one I bought Fall '05 new. I tried switching monitors to and no difference. I still use my flat screen from '05 but next new thing to try is trying the old monitor again.
I've run out of ideas and b/c I don't want to take allergy medication for the symptoms I try to limit my time and go though times I don't use the computer. But, with having dd, using the computer is more necessary especially b/c of allergens as lately as I mentioned before. And really, you may want to try not using a computer- it's hard!
I really need to take a break now for sure, my nose really hurts!
Please only offer ideas that I haven't mentioned and are thought out, as you could understand this issue is extremely frustrating for me.
I know this probably has lots of typos.

I was curious, I'm sorry. I'm not sure how much research you've managed to do on it (considering the allergen in question), but I will be looking into it for you. Thank you for the whole story.
I hope this isn't unhelpful. Are you sensitive to other electromagnetic fields? Cell phones?
Woah, not snarky, just curious. I'd never heard of a computer-specific allergy. I'd heard of issues w/computer screens or the sounds or the EM fields or whatever, but I'd never heard it called an "allergy." Thanks for sharing your story.

Elizabeth, I just happened upon this article last night which mentions computer allergy! I bet you could heal it with NAET or AAT.

Wow, that's fascinating! (In a man, that's awful sort of way.) What jumps out at me is that (I think) a lot of those symptoms are common with salicylate sensitivity.

From here,
"Patients who have Samter’s triad manifest nasal polyps, aspirin sensitivity as well as asthma."

Salicylates are generally detoxed by either glucuronidation or sulfation. Maybe you have some sort of an issue there? Maybe some chemical from the computer shuts down one of those pathways for you?

trying to put info all in one spot so you don't have to go searching:

From tuberose:
Quote:
Glucuronidation, the combining of glucuronic acid with toxins, in Phase II can be reversed by Beta glucuronidase enzymes produced by pathological bacteria and cause toxins to be reabsorbed increasing toxicity. Many of the commonly prescribed drugs are detoxified through this pathway. It also helps to detoxify aspirin, menthol, vanillin (synthetic vanilla), food additives such as benzoates, and some hormones. Calcium d-glucurate, a natural ingredient found in certain vegetables and fruits can inhibit beta glucuronidase activity resulting in increased elimination of toxins.
Quote:
The sulfation system is important for detoxifying several drugs, food additives, and, especially, toxins from intestinal bacteria and the environment. In addition to environmental toxins, sulfation is also used to detoxify some normal body chemicals and is the main pathway for the elimination of steroid and thyroid hormones. Since sulfation is also the primary route for the elimination of neurotransmitters, dysfunction in this system may contribute to the development of some nervous system disorders.
Have you tried calcium D glucurate or epsom salt baths to reduce symptoms?
And this is exactly the detox stuff that I'm hoping will be the end of dd's allergies. If you want, PM me and I'd be willing to share what I've learned over the phone so you don't have to be on the computer!

Someone just posted this on our local WAPF forum re: EMF

"My EHS problems have been growing over time but really kicked in when my new Dell laptop arrived a year ago. Then, last week I finally made the connection between the laptop running a few feet from me and the very scary symptoms that were resulting - essentially like someone sprinkling arsenic on my heart every day.

The solution ended up being pretty simple. GET THAT THING AWAY FROM ME. With some simple USB extender cables allowing the keyboard and mouse run be connected from the other side of my office, the problem has been solved ...so far. --- from --- has also helped with some herbal tea and breathing to recover.

If there is interest in posting more of what I have found in my forced research, I will share.

In the meantime get that computer and also those CRT monitors at least 6 feet away from you.

Medical Director of Swiss Clinic Takes Brave Stand on the Hazards of Electromagnetic Pollution

Dr. Thomas Rau, medical director of the world-renowned Paracelsus Clinic in Switzerland, says he is convinced `electromagnetic loads' lead to cancer, concentration problems, ADD, tinnitus, migraines, insomnia, arrhythmia, Parkinson's and even back pain.

At Paracelsus, cancer patients are now routinely educated in electromagnetic (EM) field remediation strategies, and inspectors from the Geopathological Institute of Switzerland are sent to patients' homes to assess EM field exposures.

Dr. Rau says one strategy to consider for those experiencing `electrical sensitivity' is to remove the electromagnetic hot spot in your head created by the presence of metal fillings. Fillings can act as antennas in the presence of cell phones and cell towers, wi-fi networks, portable phones, and other sources of radio frequency radiation.

Beneficial bacteria also grow more slowly in the presence of electromagnetic fields, so aggressive supplementation with probiotics may help those exposed to EM radiation.

Electrical sensitivity is a sometimes debilitating experience created by the disregulating effects of electromagnetic fields. It has been linked to many acute and chronic illness conditions, and is a serious emerging public health issue.

I ignore all anything about EMF stuff because dh is a computer scientist/iphone programmer, and it's not a variable I have any control over whatsoever I choose instead to focus my energy elsewhere

I'm with you on this. Dh is programmer and works from home. So there ya go.

Count me three. DH's a network administrator for an ISP and works, much of the time, from home. He has another title too, but I can't remember what it is offhand... People usually understand network admin better than the other.

My DH is also an IT guy, networking specialist, etc. -- though he doesn't work from home.

Just checking back. Thanks for all the information. I've really limited my time the last month on the computer because my symptoms were too bothersome and a lot of MDC didn't fit into 'quick time on the computer'. I'm sure you all understand though given my long explanation about my computer issues. BTW, I'm planning to redo my long post, to "clean it up" and make it readable. Thanks to anyone who really was able to follow it. And I'll admit, just reading it really makes the whole thing sounds crazy!

I'm still trying to figure out dd's allergies. I still have not gotten her to baseline despite avoiding lots of foods and have another appt for further muscle testing this week. I and dd are on the human strain probiotics that JaneS posted about on another thread. I'm eating more fermented foods too in addition to all the other things.

Whome- I pm'd you. THANKS for the phone call offer! It's interesting what you said about salicylate sensitivity. I've never checked into this for myself. I certainly will.
JaneS- Could you share the contact info. of the person who is also dealing with this problem? I would LOVE to contact them. Having the computer and monitor 6 feet away is interesting. There is a weird smell that the room where the computer is has though once the computer is on for a bit and is bothering me so I'm not sure if the 6 ft. away thing would work for me, but worth a shot.
Menomena- I didn't mean you were snarky, I meant I didn't want to come off snarky as I gave my long winded reply as to my computer allergy troubles. I call it an "allergy" because I have allergy symptoms and have to avoid the computer to feel better and using the term helps people to understand what I mean.
kortner- I haven't noticed other sensitivities to other electromagnetic fields but I've never paid attention so who knows. I rarely watch tv. I do have a cell phone but try to keep it 6 inches (as suggested by Chiro) from me if I'm carrying it.

If anyone has any other ideas/help for me feel free to PM me too or phone calls are great! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!

Send me a PM with your email and I will forward it to him.

Another WAPF member of our group also recommended this to block EMFs
http://www.emfblues.com/ComputerRadiation.html

Also could it be the flashing of an LED/LCD monitor that is also effecting you?

I remember reading this thread a long time ago and now it turned up again in a search I just did. I remember thinking that a computer allergy is weird back then, but now I have experience to add to it. This is computer allergy / EMF radiation experience causing eczema here that I'm about to talk about.

So a little background is, my daughter is now 3 years old but when she was a baby, since she was a newborn, she had eczema (she was 100% breastfed and not vaccinated, born at home and I myself really have no health problems, eat a wholesome traditional foods diet, no allergies in the family whatsoever, etc. so everything seems right healthwise), anyway, so her eczema cleared up by the time she was 9 months old (about 99% clear except for a small spot on her thigh) and it eventually all cleared but then she started getting eczema around her ankles/lower leg area on both legs maybe around 18 months old or so.

So back at that time when she was a young baby with eczema (she had the eczema on her chest, arms, legs and cheeks), I did a lot of research as to what causes it, and especially in this forum, people were saying its caused by leaky gut, and the only way to heal that is through diet. I found that odd because I had no symptoms of leaky gut whatsoever, like I said I really have no health problems.

So anyway, I discovered muscle testing being done by a chiropractor, and I loved how it was so accurate in locating the subluxations. Then I ended up moving and I searched for a new chiropractor and it had to be one that did muscle testing too because I would never go back to just a regular chiropractor. So my new chiropractor who did muscle testing, also did N.E.T..neuro emotional technique...., which I had known nothing about, so we ended up doing it on my daughter's eczema on her lower legs/ankles and we found that it was caused by stuck emotions, an emotional allergy. So he cleared the emotions, and that day it was better and within about 3 days, all the eczema was 100% gone. This was when she was 2 years old.

Her eczema remained 100% gone for about 9 months or so. Then around when she turned 3 years old (November 2010), she started showing eczema again, and it was at first just a little and then it started getting worse and worse. I had moved since then because I had divorced, and was really busy working, and moved far away from that N.E.T. chiropractor, but I finally made some appointments with the chiropractor, hoping to clear more emotions (I'm thinking probably due to the divorce stress) hoping to clear the eczema that way. So the first appointment we cleared some emotions  and had no improvements in the eczema.

Then the chiropractor tested her allergy reflex at the next appointment and yes something was showing there. Tested positive for food allergy? Nope. Environmental allergy? Nope. Electromagnetic Allergy? Yes! So he asks if there is any new kind of electronic device she is using, and I said yes, the Apple iPad that her dad got her for her birthday in November. He tested to confirm that... and yes she has an electromagnetic allergy to that. So he did some clearing on the allergy reflex and gave some homeopathic allergy spray and also bought an EMF protector to stick on the iPad. I told her dad not to let her use the iPad for a week to let the EMF protector charge and to give her a rest. Her eczema did get better. Its still not 100% better, but there is a significant improvement. I just don't have control over what she comes in contact with since I work full-time now, she goes to preschool, and I don't know for sure what her dad does with her when I don't have her. I know she's back to using the iPad again with the EMF protector. But if it were my choice, I wouldn't let her use the iPad at all. I'm reading that those wireless devices are the heaviest as far as EMF radiation.

I need to buy an EMF protector that she can wear. She used to have one from emfblues.com that she wore around her neck but she bit it and broke it. Does anyone else have any recommendations for EMF protectors that she can wear? Anyway, I hope this helps someone else who is stumped with an eczema problem. I sure was back then and when I think about it now, as a baby her eczema was probably caused by me sitting at the computer with her in my lap and I would do even more research on the computer with her on my lap, trying to figure out her eczema problem, but little did I know that I was probably causing it even more by doing research on the computer with her. By the time she was 9 months old, she was mobile and didn't sit in my lap much, hence she didn't get much EMF radiation from the computer, so that is probably why her eczema 99% cleared at that time! Makes total sense. I just had no idea that she was allergic to the computer and she is STILL very sensitive to EMF radiation. We DO NOT have leaky gut and we DO NOT have food allergies causing eczema. Its electromagnetic radiation allergies!
