I figured that with so many moms new to allergies I'd post a friendly reminder about making sure you read ALL labels and NEVER assume. I learned this (almost) the hard way when I took a container of O'Soy yogurt out of the refrigerator and just happened to notice that the yogurt contained milk. They had changed the cultures they used since I had last purchased it and I almost fed it to my dairy allergic daughter!
:
This past Saturday I gave DD some Campbell's chicken noodle soup (Dora shapes). She gets this as a treat every once in awhile because she really likes the shapes. Of course I assumed that all the chicken noodle recipes were the same, just different shapes. Nope. Saturday night was horrific to say the least. Tons of screaming and crying throughout the night, continuing into Sunday night. Tonight we were running short on time and we popped open a can of soup to feed DD before my MIL came to babysit (I have class and DH had a meeting). I just happened to look at the ingredients on the can and saw that it contains egg whites!! (DD is allergic to eggs, too). OMG -- it clicked right then and there -- Saturday we gave her the Dora soup; it had egg whites; she screamed all night. I'm a bad Mommy.
So, the moral of the story is to read labels compulsively and never ever assume something is safe without double checking.
