Do these One Size dipes really fit newborns?

I updated on post #10 now that my babe is here and 3 weeks old!

Help! NB CD is soo new to us...DD was 14 mo when we started and all we had to use was med FB. I have many One size dipes that I got at a really really good deal...but I'm wondering if they'll fit my newborn from day one? Or do I need to get some more newborn dipes...I did get a few NB dipes.. 4 NB fitteds with 2 wraps and 2 NB pockets and 1 NB/S swaddlebee pocket.

I have many of these One size dipes... blueberry, blueberry minky, HH, FB, BG.

I don't want to go overboard with NB as they don't fit them long but I also don't want to have to resort to sposies. FYI: My DD was 7lbs 4oz at birth.

If OS don't fit a newborn well around what approximate age did they start to fit? I know every baby is different but just getting some general ideas. Thanks so much!

They probably will be a bit bulky at first, from what I've seen, most people like to use another diaper for the first month or two. I plan to use pf's and fitteds with #2 (due Aug!!!). Different brands also advertise different sizing. I think some say they fit at 6 lbs and some are more like 8 lbs. Happy Heiny's say 7.5 lbs, BG is 7 lbs, Tiny Tush is 6 lbs...

I plan to have about 24 nb dipes (pf's & fitteds) - I have some one-sizers, too.

DS was 9.1 lbs and the OS started fitting him around 7 wks. I used sposies at first, but if I were to do it again I would get a bunch of prefolds and some covers to get by until the OS fit. That seems like the most cost effective way to do it.

My Lily was 7lbs at birth and she was wearing her OS BG 3.0 pockets right away . They were a bit bulky and didn't fit perfectly but we used them anyway.

Our favorite diapers for the first few weeks were infant prefolds and Bummis Super bright covers. Now at 5 weeks old and 9 1/2 pounds those BG diapers fit much better.

I'd say OS pockets fit my babies about 6 weeks. Even then, they were pretty bulky.

You could get a couple dozen preemie or infant prefolds (or the in-between newborn size) and xs covers to use from the beginning. It should still come out cheaper than disposables, I think.

I used BG 3.0's on ds right away but that being said he was 10+lbs and 23" long. They fit him well but I can't imagine an 8lber or even a 9lber in them. I think they would be swimming in them. HTH.

I haven't used the others....Like the op's have said I would get some nb p/f's and covers for the first few weeks.

Without a doubt. I think I probably spent close to $100 on pampers in the first 6 wks.

Dh had said he would not do prefolds...we had only done pockets before...so I did find 4 used infant fitteds with covers. I told DH the cost difference of fitteds used, disposables and prefolds...we are getting 12 infant prefolds! Funny how funds change things for men!

The one size will be HUGE on your newborn unless you have a 12lb baby! I don't think my DS will be into regular one size CD until he is 15-17 lbs or about 6 months. I bought some Happy Heiny's Mini one-size. They fit from 5-15lbs but still found it rather large on a 9lb baby. Now that my LO is 11lbs they work great and still have TONS of room. I bought 15 of them and is working great for us. I don't know what other brand does the mini one size diapers, Happy Heiny just started. You may even have to call them to order - I dont think they are for sale on their website yet.

OS did work for my infant.

OS did work for my infant at 2 weeks and 9lbs.:

I hated the fitteds with covers. The ones that are the best are the KL0 so I do still use those when I run out of pockets. But I did start using BG and OSFB and OSHH at 2 weeks and 9lbs. They are a bit bulky but not too bad with the small insert and a hemp oval under. They absorb so much better than the fitteds and seem softer on LO bum. We use these at home but I still use sposies out till I get the hang of having two children with me. And we still use sposies at night as this one sleeps for 5 hour stretches. The blueberries are still a bit too big for bulk wise so I'll wait to use those.

ETA: I read my last post and we decided against prefolds, thank goodness since I didn't end up liking fitteds I'm sure I would have hated prefolds.

The problem is that OS diapers don't fit newborns, but newborns grow too quickly to get your money's worth out of newborn diapers. One solution is to use flats, which really ARE one-size, or preemie/newborn prefolds that can be used as doublers later. Another solution is to buy newborn diapers that have a high resale value, and sell them when you're done with them.

My DS fit in OS diapers starting at about a month old, when we ran out of the free pack of nb sposies the hospital sent home with us. But, he was 9.8 pounds at birth.

prefolds/flats might be a good solution for some but I would never use them. The OS BG and HH are not that big on my 9lb, 3 week old. They never leak and are so comfy on her tushy. I really like them even with a bit added bulk. I didnt find any newborn infant pockets that didn't leak and I hated how wet the fitteds got right after she peed, she was basically sitting in wetness all the time, even with the Kissaluv 0s. To each their own...
