Anyone have a vanishing twin that didn't vanish?? Looking for some hope!!!

So i have been kinda hesitant to come over to this thread, but after thinking about it I thought maybe there is some others out there that have gone through this too and I'd love to hear your story (good or bad... b/c i know it can go either way).

My brief story is that at 6weeks 1 day we had our first U/S and found that we are hopefully having twins. Baby #1 the dr said that it is 95% likely it will be fine, but Baby #2 had a slow heartbeat (which we did see and hear) and he/she has a 50/50 chance of making it. We go again on Thurs the 12th for the next U/S to see if #2 made it or if it vanished. So anyone out there with a story or info to share with me? We are just hoping and praying it works out and everyone is healthy. Thanks for reading!! :

this must be so hard for you. i think all of us who first saw our multiples in the first trimester kind of waited nervously to see if they would both/ all make it. sending prayers for healthy babies and a healthy you.

yes. Sadly, we had a vanishing twin but it was very early. My first ultrasound at 7 wks showed a healthy baby bud with heartbeat and a baby that didn't grow past 5wks with no heartbeat. It was sad. We were told that this happens more than we all know. If I had had my first US at 12 weeks I would not have even known.

I hope that you hear and see good news!

Yep!
At 5 weeks, we saw two sacs, one of which was not shaped properly and didn't contain a yolk sac like the other. I was told that it could go either way, and to come back in a week.
At 6 weeks, it was even more misshapen, and they said it was a vanishing twin, and to come back the next week to make sure it had fully reabsorbed.
At 7 weeks, we saw two babies, measuring right on, with their hearts beating and each in their own sac- so he didn't vanish

I had a first u/s at 6w1d, and we saw 2 sacs, 2 heartbeats, but one of the sacs was much smaller than the other. Doc initially have the little sac baby 50%. They didn't measure hb or baby size at that u/s. At the next u/s a week later, both had grown, but the smaller sac was still much smaller. But the baby was in normal range size. The heartbeat was slow, but not abnormally. 75% range. Next week, the baby in the small sac was the bigger of the two babies, a few days ahead. Heartbeats both normal. I'm now 29 weeks with twins. As of the last u/s they were 2 oz. apart in size (estimated) and both a little above average for babies that age.

I just read your post and you just made my day!!!: Your situation sounds exactly like ours!! Baby #2 is in a smaller kinda longer/narrow sac as well so hopefully we will have the same positive results that you had. I totally forgot to look at your sig, but is this your first pregnancy also? Thanks so much for sharing your story!!!

This is my first full pregnancy, but I did have a missed miscarriage about a year ago-- but in that case we never saw anything but a sac, no faint heartbeat, no fetal pole, etc. So, you're already past that hurdle, which is good.

On the small sac issue: my doctor said that the ultrasounds are just measuring on a 2-dimensional plane, so it's always possible that the sac is actually extending back further on the 3rd dimension and just not showing up as big on this plane. And she said once the babies are big enough to measure their sizes, they stop caring about sac size generally speaking.

So, good luck and keep us posted!

Well, it is official!! There are TWO!!!!!!!!!!! : Baby #2 totally caught up and is the exact same size as Baby #1. One heart rate was 165 and the other was 174 so we will see. Can't wait to find out what sex they are, that will be the really exciting U/S. I know, yes we are going to find out!!! I can't take the suspense!! Thanks for all your thoughts and good wishes, I know it helped. It was crazy, I was driving home and thinking "crap, does this mean we will have to buy two cribs now?" All the $$$$ lights were going off in my head!!!!!!!!!!!! Sure hope my body will hold up so I can keep working as long as I can so we can save, save, save!!! We will deal with all that later!! Thanks again!!!
