Bfing & Supplementing w/ Formula Alternative

I have a 5 month old. I've been back to work for 1 month. I pump at work 2 times a day. I am losing all the milk reserve that I had in the freezer. He's getting close to outstripping my supply by 1-2 ounces a day.

With DD I struggled to get her on formula at 8 months and had found that some use goat milk instead of formula. Does anyone know if there is an alternative to formula that can be used for a 5 month old. Adding something like a few ounces of goat milk might be helpful.

Sounds like I need to look into other things like fenugreek as well.

You may find this helpful:

What's interesting is that babies don't actually eat more as they bigger - milk consumption actually stays the same between one and six months (and according to my LC up to one year as solids are introduced).
If you are pumping less – and not just feeling like you need to be feeding more – I've heard good things about the book Making More Milk.

just spoke with my ped about this.

he suggested 'babys only' formula , goats milk, cows milk in that order & all organic. my lo is 7mo. if it will be only one of these and no bfing at all then only go with formula, but if it is just supplementing the bm then goat is fine he said.

Thanks Megan73 and Olien for your feedback.

Olien, how mainstream or not is your pediatrician. Just curious. I think I'll ask about this to my Dr. but I think he's pretty mainstream. I would hope that I could supplement 2 to 4 ounces with some formula alternative.

At 5-6 months your baby can start eating solids while you are working decreasing the amount of EBM you need to have. Then breastfeed when you are together.
