thank you for the new thread!!!

last night i was having contractions at 5 or so minutes apart - this may be tmi (sorry) but they made me feel as if i immediately had to poo. as soon as the contraction was over, i would feel normal again. i'm assuming this is a contraction, but i'm not sure????

thing is, i honestly don't know anyone who has gone into labor on their own. all the mothers i know personally have either had c-sections at 37 weeks or went to be induced at like 38 or 39 weeks.

i did some searching on message boards and it seems like everyone's labor starts differently anyway, so that didn't really help. i haven't lost my plug and i'm not having any show, so i assume that nothing is really happening.

i'm considering opting out of the cervical checks all together until i go into labor. i feel like knowing that i'm not making progress will do nothing but make the situation more stressful. thoughts??

Sounds like you're getting close to me giggleblue. How exciting!!

Thanks for the new thread DM 630!

giggleblue - I wouldn't worry about not making progress at the weekly appointment. Some women are 3cm dilated for weeks and weeks and go 2 weeks past their due date. Other women are not dilated at all and go into labor early. You never can tell.

Yup, I was 3 cm and the midwives got me all excited, and said I could go any day... ("could" should have tipped me off) and then 2 1/2 weeks later (a day after my due date) out she came. I almost think it's worse that way...the expecting something to happen when it's not ready to.

Yup. I was not dilated AT ALL and had Coco 20 hours later.

I was clueless and had cramps for about a week and lo and behold I was 4 cm and 80 % effaced when we went in for our midwife to induce me with the wretched verbena cocktail. Ya never know.

The same thing happened to me for weeks at the end of both pregnancies. It was totally tormenting the first time (we went for many a long walk, hoping to "get things going" believing that "this was it"). The second time, I hardly even paid attention, and the experience was much more peaceful. So my advice is to try to ignore it, don't time how frequently the contractions are coming, don't wonder, "is this labor?!" When you're really in labor, you'll know. And try to think of the contractions simply as what they are: your muscles strengthening and preparing for the labor which is soon to come.

I also avoided all cervical checks/vaginal exams in pregnancy (except for when I really thought I was in labor at 35 weeks (really I was birthing some kidney stones )) because the information tells you nothing, and the idea of anyone entering me at that point was so unappealing.

Try to enjoy these last few days/weeks . . . someday you really will miss having your sweet baby inside you.

Hi folks!
I'm here for as long as I'm here... let's hope the full 40 weeks!
I'm due November 15th
I have promised myself that I am not going to resist getting happy about this baby despite the 3 miscarriages. I know this one is it. WE've temporarily named the embryo "warm" (for many reasons) and I feel good to already have a a name so I can talk to the being growing inside of me and let him/her/it know that I want him/her/it to join us on the outside when ready!

Not much in the way of symptoms yet. I'm fine with that. Friday (tomorrow) and Monday I'll do blood tests to see the status of the HCG.

Anyway, I just wanted to dive in and join you guys (again)! And have fun despite my worries.

I'd love to know what others nicknamed theirs in the beginning! What a great topic. We called ours Sticky Bun so it would stick, stick, stick.

Hooray, Hooray!!! :::

Zeben was due 11/13 (born 11/14) and I really loved the seasonal timing of the pregnancy (not too big in summer, but big enough that wearing a bathing suit was pretty fun . . . and then right when the dreariness of winter is approaching, you get a brand new baby to distract you, just in time for the holiday fun!).

Stick, baby warm, stick!

We were boring and mostly called ours "the baby." Sometimes I also called him (and still do), "the bean." For a while we also called the baby, "Koa" since that was going to be the name if we were having a girl, and possibly for a boy too. Now we mostly call him by what we think his name is actually going to be: Leo (Zeben says "Lee-lo").

My DPs actually called it "Peanut" a couple weeks ago, and I melted. Still, once in a while they still call it the Parasite.

Me, I call it the Nudger, 'cause it likes to nudge me throughout the day.

: : Congrats Megin and Katie!! : :

I will be excited for you. May your stay here be a long and healthy one!!

AAU: We had one baby shower on Wednesday. It was thrown by the neighborhood group that Quasar's parents belong to. What a wonderful and generous crowd!! This weekend is our big family and friends shower and I can't wait to see everyone there. We set up some of the nursery yesterday (finally)... Seeing the crib set up was making everything seem so much more real!

How are pranava and giggleblue doing? And if MamaBear is still lurking... HI! You must be getting close too!!

We should probably be taken off of the "recovering from loss, waiting to rejoin" since we've now rejoined.

No symptoms today. I wish I could just be happy about that!
