Queer and Pregnant Mar., Apr., May - Page 33

Checking in b/c it's Monday...how's everyone doing/feeling?

I had my shower on Saturday and it was lots of fun. Very small and formal and all like-minded mamas, so I got stuff I'll really use. It was so much fun!

I'm feeling well for the most part. I am so used to the acid reflux now that I just ignore it. It's mostly just brought on by tomato sauce and salsa, both of which I refuse to give up.

I got to hold a friend's 4 day old baby the other day and it was a nice reminder...it's so easy to forget in pregnancy that there's actually something amazingly cute and human growing in there.

Thanks for all the congrats, everyone. Things are kind of crappy today, though.

(x-posted from Queer Conceptions) I started bleeding yesterday afternoon with some cramping. This was right after getting a nice positive on a HPT that morning. This morning there is still moderate (red) bleeding, but cramps are gone. I just got back from the OB, who ordered bHCG and progesterone tests (will be repeated on Wednesday). She seemed hopeful; said that she has had patients who had moderate to severe bleeding early, and still went on to have healthy pregnancies.

So, we're waiting for test results, and more tests, and to see if the pregnancy is still viable and if I need progesterone supplements or anything else. I've been told to rest and relax in the meantime, but the latter is easier said than done.

I'm trying to stay positive. It's crazy to have a few of the happiest days of your life followed by the most worrisome. I'm just hoping and hoping, because at this point I have no control over anything. Being a complete control freak, this is quite difficult.

Lyndzie,

Though my bleeding was at 13 weeks and not at 4, mine has turned out okay. I was bleeding tons of bright red blood and having lots of cramping.

Sometimes things do turn out okay. s

I hope your test results come back ok. I have also heard of women who have bleeding early on and even later and everything works out ok. As you said, you have no control over it so I hope you can just relax and wait for the test results.

Shower sounds fun!

I know what you mean about the reminders. I have a couple of friends with babies right now and it's so fun to watch them and imagine DP and I with one in less than 6 months!!

I hit 15wks today. I had a bit of a dip in the rollercoaster on the weekend. My stomach suddenly felt smaller and I had some low aching in my back and pelvic area. I suddenly imagined the worse. I'm still struggling with feeling secure about this pregnancy I guess. I called my mw and she said to stop by on Wednesday morning for a quick listen on the doppler to get rid of my anxiety.....I agreed to.

On the up side, DP and I are off to the Okanagan for 4 days on Thursday to visit her brother and his wife and to just generally relax!

hey ya'll,
I need some advice/support--I found an engorged deer tick on me this morning and I am freaking out!! Of course I went and googled "lymes disease and pregnancy" and now I'm a complete mess!!! Now I "know" that my fetus can contract lymes (even if I get treatment), that if I don't get treatment the baby will have severe learning disabilities, that my fetus will contract an infection...and on and on...

My real question is being about to enter my 4th month do I still need to worry that boosting my immune system would make my body reject the baby as it would have in the first trimester?? Usually if I had any question with any tick I would just fill up on goldenseal and echinacea--but people are sooo squirrley about herbs and pregnancy everything says "don't take if pregnant or nursing" eeeeekkkk!!!

Did you get the red ring around it? I would wait and see if that shows up. Otherwise, aren't you fine? We found 2 ticks on my daughter on Memorial Day and the doctor pulled them off (they were so tiny we couldn't get to them) and said it was fine unless the rash showed up...but they did take the ticks in to be tested.

Sorry to be gross, but I think the best thing would be for you to a) watch for the rash and b) take the tick if you still have it and have them test it. They will collect it and test it for you.

I'm really anti-meds in general and work at a health food store, but I would take antibiotics if it turned out to really be lyme-infested.

Hi everyone. Sadly, I have to leave. bHCG came back negative. The nurse I spoke to thinks it was probably a chemical pg, esp since I got BFPs on 4 different brands of HPTs.

Staying positive, though, and hoping to join you again very soon! Thought I may be more cautious about how early I hop over here next time.

Sorry to hear that. Best wishes on the next try.

lyndz--I'm so sorry and hurry up and come back soon ok???

I'm off to the doc, my horoscope actually said "the seeds of some variety of physical problem have been sown, and you may start showing symptoms today. This should be more of a matter of discomfort than anything else, and should move on fairly quickly, if you follow the proper rules as far as its treatment is concerned."

I couldn't believe it--I'm not messing around I'm starting antibiotics today!
Sorry to hear that, Lyndzies I hope you are back soon!

kjm, yikes! I don't have any experience with ticks and such but I hope it's nothing serious! I would likely resort to antibiotics under the circumstances as well.

Afm, DP and I got to hear the heartbeat again today (150bpm today). It is so unbelievably reassuring to hear that amazing sound *sigh* Unfortunately however we can't get out of town this weekend because some stuff has come up with the rental house DP and her brother own - water pipe issues possibly ugh.

carmen-ughh abut your spoiled plans but yay for lil heartbeats!

afm--the visit to the doc was a waste of time. She prescribed me doxcycline, but by the time I got to the pharmacy she had called to have them tell me it wasn't safe fro pregnancy--its class D!! ugghh
so now my only choice is to spend my next 4 days at the Cape constantly inspecting my body for bulls eyes!!
The doc said "only 30 % of deer ticks carry lymes"--umm that is pretty high chances.
The pharmacist said "I wouldn't worry unless you've been running around in high grass"--umm YES I HAVE, how do you think I got the damn deer tick on me
post #653 of 704
Lyndzies...so sorry. I really hope you are back on this side very soon.

KJM...fingers crossed your tick situation is nothing to worry about. Was that the only antibiotic they could prescribe???

Carmen...yay for little heartbeats!!!! :

YUCK! I feel your pain. I had to endure the 3 hour also. Bring a good book. Not this kind of thing that you want to do on a Saturday. I hope the results come back fine.

This is so off-topic, but for those of you in Northampton, there is a fabulous kid's puppeteer/singer named Tom Knight who is moving there from here in just a few weeks. He's honestly the best kids musician I've heard, other than maybe Raffi, lol. And his puppets are all hand-made and amazing.

If you see his name on a poster, I really would check his show out. I'm so sad he's moving away from here

Argh. I hope the longer test goes better!! Good luck.
Sorry about the GTT Jody! BTDT also....no fun I know. The good news is...a lot of women fail the 1 hour and go on to pass the 3 hour...so it's hopeful you don't have anything to worry about. Good luck!
