What do you use to carry your toddler?

Hello! DD is 20 mo and still loves the Hotslings pouch. Most often, I carry her on the back of my hip.

But, I am thinking ahead (to this summer) and wondering if we may benefit from a different carrier...and Ergo, maybe?

We don't use a stroller. So far, we just haven't had the "need" for one. And, the handful of times that DD has sat in one, she just wanted to get out of it and push it herself....

So, what do you experienced babywearing mommas use to carry your toddlers? TIA!!!

DS is just 1, but he's a heavy little boy at over 25 lbs. I've found my mei tai to be easiest on my back. For short jaunts we use a ring sling, but for longer outings nothing beats the mei tai. We have an Ergo, but it pulls a little at my neck. Works great for DH, though. I would try before you buy, if possible.

For my 23 month old, I use a Toddlerhawk Mei Tai, a Beco Butterfly and now an Ergo. I like them all, they are supportive of his weight and easy on my neck and back. The ergo is the easiest for me to put on, by myself when out of the house.

I was always surprised at how much a 2 year old needs to be carried. I had a collection of carriers by that phase and used them all depending on how long and if he was going to be asleep. If it was winter and I was just nursing or standing around I loves my fleece pouch sling. and if we were hiking I had a Ergo or a mei tai. I also had a Maya ring sling that was my go to for running errands. There you go just start collecting! HEHEH!

I'm using my ergo most with my almost 19 month old dd. I'm looking at getting a RS for quick up/downs this summer, as well as a mei tai (just cause), but I think I'll always love my ergo. It's really comfy, and not too hot in the summer compared to some others I have tried.

Ergo

My extremely sleep deprived 22mo spent part of today in the Ergo. It's definitely been useful over the last 18 mo or so.

If you have a heavier toddler i would suggest getting somethig with double shoulder straps like a MT or some sort of ssc, and i would get something with wider straps. So far my most comfy carrier is my Bamberoo. I LOVE it for toddlers. And i recently got a APLX that i thoguht i wasnt going to like, but it has been my go to carrier for the last few months. I have heard great things about Olives and Applesauce SSC too.

Mei tai or short wrap for me when carrying a toddler. My short wraps kind of replaced ring slings for me, since I could use a short wrap like a ring sling (in a rebozo carry) but also in a two shoulder back carry when needed.

We've been in woven wraps for almost 2 years now. My son (23 months) is 33lbs and still needs carrying a lot. We also have a MT, but it is just not as good at distributing his weight or as versatile as the wraps.

Mei tai with seat darts... current favorite is Kindercarry.

Those are quite pricey, so if that's over budget, my runner-up is BBO (Ball Baby Overall). I haven't tried Kozy though - I do hear lots of good things about those with toddlers.

Toddlerhawk is great.

it sort of depends on your personal preference in terms of buckles versus ties.
ties, a reputable Mei Tai.
buckles, there are great options out there.
check out TBW for articles and reviews. they also have a forum for various types of carriers.

Today we worked at our church yard sale from 7 am until about 1pm, my Dd will be 2 this week and she is solid at 30 lbs. I used my Vicki Storch and she was on my back the whole time. We still do a ton of babywearing and find wraps to be our most versitile carriers. I will say that my Olives and Applesauce buckle Tai is nice too but I am finding as the weather warms up and I am wearing fewer clothes it pinches under my arms. I have several wraps in different lengths and they all still get tons of use!

I use a podegi - I'll see if I can put up a picture tomorrow, if my toddler is willing to be photographed
