Should I get an Ergo or a Beco?

I am torn b/n the Ergo & the Beco. I have a ring sling but am looking for something more hands free and hiking friendly. I want someting that is light weight, breathable, comfortable, secure, well made, and good fit for my size (5'2"), medium build.

Also, if I go with Ergo....the sport or classic?
if I go with Beco...the butterfly or 4th generation?

I appreciate your input!

I only had a ring sling as well for DD's first five months. I got a beco about three weeks ago and it's terrific.

[Edit to add: forgot to mention it's a butterfly, and I'm 5'6'', slight build, and love to hike].

We have the Ergo and love it! I borrowed a Beco from a friend and liked it too, but I really like the hood on the Ergo and my baby likes the infant insert/side leg carry better than the upright inward facing. She's still too little to sit with hips splayed, so can't comment on that aspect.

we love the ergo... i have a "classic", but new gen (make sense?)... dd is sleeping in it right now... i am 5'0" med build and it works great, but i have to nurse her standing up in it b/c i'm too short to nurse her sitting down. i've taken her hiking a few times and it works out great, plus dh doesn't mind wearing it (he thinks a sling is too "feminine" for him). dd did not enjoy the infant insert, but she never cared for being swaddled, i think that had something to do with it.

We love the ERGO. In fact I'm going to order a sport also. I want to keep 1 in the car and 1 in the house LOL. I also have ring slings, mei tais, pouch slings, and wraps - but I always come back to the ergo!

We have an ergo and love it! A lot.

It's the only carriet my dh will wear my dd in. It's really comfy and I don't find it too hot in the summer. Some people say the Ergo Sport is cooler, but it doesn't have the built in storage pocket (which I love for tossing a diaper, keys, money sunscreen into).

The Ergo has more padding, so may be a little more bulky. The beco 4th gen could be a could fit for you. I have the butterfly which has been great for my dd from birth to now (15 months and my 2.5 yo). I miss the Ergo pocket, but I attach a wristlet to the waist belt and it works great too!

I say Beco. it is taller & supports more of the babe, so they can't lean back & throw you off balance.

but I have found that it is near impossible to nurse in the beco... that said I still prefer the beco

btw I'm 5' 3" & a size 8

This is really dissapointing! anyone else find this to be the case?

I got an Ergo, based solely on price (I had a buying opp and took it). I haven't tried a Beco but have seen one and it looks very nice, and very similar.

I LOVE the Ergo. I have used it multiples times per day since it came. I am getting much more done b/c I can put my DD on my back and she's happy I wore her on my front through a grocery run and it was wonderful. I can even wear my 4YO on my back and he says it's comfy, and I was totally fine. It feels just like wearing a backpack. Love it!!

Being able to transfer baby from one wearer to another without taking the baby out of the carrier is a plus, imo.
And to nurse, i simply loosen straps on one side and give a little slack to the waist. big/tall toddler. no problem.
tbh, it's not as easy as a ring sling, of course. but it does the trick.

I don't have one with the new contour hood. But it looks more conforming than the flat hood I have.

Yep. Strangely, when I first got my beco (the first day), I somehow managed to nurse in it, while walking around the appartment. But I've never been able to do it since
TBH, I don't really try often (have maybe tried 4-5 times in total) - dd usually falls asleep in the Beco (esp when she was younger), and now that she's a bit older, she doesn't need to nurse as often, so the need to bf in the Beco doesn't come up for me.

I do love my Beco. I like the internal "harness" that keeps baby secure.
It's a tiny bit more hassle with the infant insert (just cause you have to fasten 4 buckles instead of 2) , but not too bad. It really doesn't take long to put baby in it, it's very straightforward.

Now that I've taken the insert out, I can put dd in the carrier while standing up (I put it on, slide dd in, fasten the 2 buckles). Takes less than a minute

edit: I have the Butterfly II by the way

I bet you'll love it. I have both an Ergo and Butterfly... really, you can't go wrong with either. I'd have a hard time deciding which I like better, they are both great carriers.
