Crib Futons

Does anyone have any experience with wool or wool/cotton crib futons? I have found some that seem like good options, but they often look so fluffy! They say that they're firm, but the picture shows big fluffy "poofs" between the tufting.

Should I worry? They hardly ever have reviews, either, so it is difficult to know.

At this point, I'm most seriously considering Surroundewe and Heart of Vermont.

I had a crib sized futon mattress that I used with my first two babies. It was given to me by my Montessori Mentor, so I am not sure of the brand or where she got it.

Mine was fairly firm. Almost comparable to a regular crib mattress, really. Not poofy at all, it sunk down slightly at the tufting but not even enough that you really felt it when there was a sheet on it, if that makes sense. It was super heavy, though.

You'd think since they are designed for use by babies and toddler, they wouldn't be unsafely soft or fluffy.

ETA: I just looked at both of those brands, and they do look poofy, but I wonder if they are pretty firm? It's hard to say by looking at pics online.

Yes, it's really hard to tell. They say that the filling is compressed...

I was also thinking that once there was a pad and sheet on it, it would be flatter.

reading the description, I'd feel comfy using either for a baby. I bet they're fairly firm and stuffed pretty full.

If they have a decent return policy, I'd probably order it and see what you think once you can touch it and lay on it.

eta: and yeah, we had a thick all cotton water-proof pad over the top, it really did even and flatten it out once you put a tight fitted sheet on it.

I had a small wool futon for my cradle. It wasn't 'poofy' but it did develop an indentation where the baby lay. I was OK with with until the my babies started to roll over but I didn't like the idea of them tummy sleeping in a hollow. Of course, once they rolled over they where too mobile for the cradle so it was an easy choice to move them to the crib which has a spring coil organic mattress. For both of my kids I needed to move them around 3-4 months.
